Still having problems w/ food

Thanks for all the input from my earlier post. I am still having trouble keeping food down. When I talked with my surgeon last week, he said if ALL food comes back, it is a problem he needs to address. If only some of it comes back, then it is a problem I need to address (ie, slow down or smaller bites). Since only everyother meal comes back, I am assuming it is my problem. The meals that do stay down, really hurt, while they are going down. It is like I can feel every movement in my pouch. Yesterday, I ate 1/2 of a scrambled egg with cheese (lowfat). It lasted about 40 minutes. Lost it on the way to church and again at church. Liquids seem to stay down most of the time. I have avoided almost all carbs other than crackers (3/day). Today is starting out just like the others, about to lose breakfast as I type. I just want to go a whole day or 2 with out retching. I may just have to go back to purees for a while.

Your doctor needs to address this. This doesn't sound right. I am post up since 3/9 and have had very few problems. I do make sure I use a baby spoon to eat with and take 5 minutes between each bites make sure you chew 20 times. I hope things get better with you I couldn't imagine what your going through.

I agree. Your surgeon needs to address this. I don't know all about stoma size and such, but it seems conceivable to me that you have a stricture that is letting water through but little else. Now just because you have a stricture doesn't mean he'll do anything with it if you are getting food down, but at least he needs to check it out and see you I would think. I know with my surgeon, he doesn't believe in dilating a stricture because he says they will relax and go away on their own. Certainly there are always exceptions to the rule, but that is his feeling. While still yet there are surgeons who feel you should always dilate. Either way, I think you need to get more information and reassurance from your surgeon. Obviously you aren't feeling well, so you need something...if only instruction on what to have. Good luck! Dina

Thanks for your advice. I went to a support group meeting there and talked to the dietitian. He suggested going to purees for awhile and adding back in new foods ONE at a time. He also reminded me to chew 25 times. Someone suggested reciting the alphabet with each chew!! Good idea. I am going to start back on the very basics. Thanks.
