I haven't been but was wondering if I should. Three meals of four oz a day can't be that much. Robin

Robin, I'm counting everything on fitday.com. I pay the most attention to protein and carbs, but my calories hover bettween 500 to 600 a day. Connie

I'm at about the same spot of 500-600 calories a day, unless I have a protein bar during the day which pushes it higher to about 700 calories. I don't like those days so they don't happen often!! But my protein bars substitute any desire for a cookie or candy. Lissa

I purchased a journal from Medabolix (the surgeon's office****ep track of calories, fat, carbohydrates, and protein. I can also journal my weight, exercise, general information about how I feel, foods that don't agree, blood pressure, heart rate, even how well I sleep. They stressed importance of journaling our food intake so that the dietician could assist if you hit a plateau. That way you have a record of what you are eating to assist them to quirk your diet as needed. I average about 500-700 calories/day. I don't focus on the calories. I focus on getting that 60 gms of protein/day. As far as my diet goes they stressed to keep fat less than 30 gms/day; carbs less than 100 gms/day; and of course protein 60+ gms/day.

My dietician said to focus on getting in 60 gms protein. I read labels and avoid anything with over 3-4 gms sugar, or more carbs than protein. I avoid anything that is over 30% calories from fat. I think that ends up putting me at about 500-600 calories per day, but I don't count them or focus on that. I still can't figure out how we are functioning on so few calories. I have done low calorie diets in the past, and my metabolism and blood sugar lowered so bad I could not think or do anything. This does not seem to be affecting me the same way, or at least to the same extreme. Anybody able to explain that one? Joy -33 lbs

It is up to you. Some other people raised some very good points. Personally, I started out writing stuff down. But I really just pay attention to protein and carbs. Like most people I shoot for 60 grams a day, and limit my carbs. I really avoid complex carbs. We all need to work what is best for us. I'm down now 80 pounds since my surgery, I'm feeling great, and the Dr. says I doing everything correctly.
