Hey all. I am 6 weeks out and I have several B-day parties coming up. Can I have cake. I go see my nutritionist in 2 weeks and I will ask her but just wanted your input. I dont trust myself not to taste.

My hubby's b-day is today and I had a teenie tiny sliver of cake (choc/choc if anyone cares!). I just needed a taste, and I was afraid if I didn't, and the cake was left here (which is was), I would go nuts with it. We celebrated w/ family on Easter and had his b-day cake then, it's still here, and I haven't touched it since my teenie tiny sliver on Sunday. Cake is my #1 weakness, so I think I've done well considering!! A bite or two should be fine! Good luck! -Wendy

To reduce chances of dumping, do NOT eat cake on an empty stomach. Eat it only after eating some protein--at least a slice of cheese, if not a meal. (You may find it easier to walk away from then anyway). Honestly, we did this to make a life change. Ask yourself, "is this bite of cake going to taste as good as the weight loss feels?" A thin person does not agonize over the choice or feel deprived. She either takes a small taste or skips it altogether and focuses on the friends and party. Somehow we have to help our heads make the transition to this way of thinking. I'm not sure how to do it either, but I know for me it is easier to walk away from sweet stuff than to stop at a bite. Try this at the party-- Notice the thin adult's plates and how many of them leave cake on them. Instead of judging them for being wasteful, try to develop the same mindset. Just a different way of looking at it. Joy -32 lbs

Good advice, Joy. My birthday is coming up next month... I'll be 32!!! Anyway, I am thinking my family will celebrate my birthday by doing something special together (not eating!!!). I am looking forward to my birthday because my birthday present from my hubby is going to be summer new clothes... another incentive to keep losing!!! I can't wait to go shopping!!!!

you can also make your own birthday cake they now have carb smart cake mixes and frostings or you can put some jell-o in a mold top with cool whip put a few cherries on top and now you have a cake and I gurentee you won't eat to much of this cake at a time. Sarah T

I am 4 wks out.....I was told by my Doc. that it was a trial and error from what I tried to eat. I really don't think that having a taste of cake is gonna do you any harm. Just enjoy yourself......YES, we did make a life changing decision to get healthy...not to stop living. Sincerely, Christina -28 LBS.

Monday the 19th I made a yellow cake with homemade icing, crisco/powdered sugar type, for my wedding anniversary. I knew I shouldn't have had it but did. Before I could eat the last bite I started getting sick at my head and stomach. I end up dry heaving for the longest time, felt like I was running a fever, and had to take a cool shower. The next day I couldn't eat or drink anything, felt like crap. My stomach and back still hurt from the heaving.
