I STINKING HATE THIS!!!
I was so lucky to start my period in the hospital after my surgery. Once they took out the catheter, I was flowing!!!! It was so hard and miserable to have my period and try to recover from surgery. That was the last thing that I needed after I went through Open Roux-En-Y.
I hope your cramps get easier!!!!

Mine started the morning of surgery right before I checked in. Totally sucked! They told me I couldn't use the tampons but instead gave me an OB pad. First those pads don't have sticky on them and second it was like using a 2x4!!! Not looking forward to "Aunt Flow" but I still have a week....

I haven't taken met since I was pregnant 3 years ago, but I know Dr. Aguirre said my ovaries looked "beautiful" when he did my surgery. I guess those years of low-carbing did me a lot of good in that respect. I knew my skin had cleared up too! (BTW for those in the dark, all these things for me are due to the endocrine disorder PCOS/polycystic ovarian syndrome).
I also got my period right after my surgery. Thankfully it wasn't going on in the hospital, but it was right after I got out. Ugh - having 30+ staples in you and navigating a period is no fun - I have to agree!
But the thing is, I haven't had a regular period since I was about 12 years old. Even when doing Atkins and metformin, it was more regular, but never like clockwork. It ran somewhere between 30-35 days, sometimes upwards of 45. THIS, well this is 28 days. I've never had that. Ever! I can't imagine going through this every 4 weeks. I have nasty cramps - it's no fun! In fact, I would say I've had cramps as bad as when I was in labor. I was taken in for an emergency c-section after I hit 5 cm but the contractions were fast and furious....even the nurse remarked on that when reading the internal monitor. So I know I wasn't wimping out - but can you imagine that every single month? Yeesh!
I wonder if one could take a SF liquid Advil or something....???

This thread really cheered me up. Reminded me of why I am so thankful I had a hysterectomy at the same time as my WLS. I was dealing with this every month, and at age 52, I say GOOD RIDDANCE! Sorry girls, I know that isn't much help to you!
Extra strength tylenol is allowed because it does not have adverse effects on the stomach. All the other OTC pain meds can cause problems. Talk to your doc if tylenol isn't getting the job done.

Just my 2 cents... I know a post op who went thru this and used NYQUIL.. thought it sounded nuts.. but she swore it works......
ASK you Dr though.. it was on her list of approved medicines and may not be on yours...
OH and her friend comes regularly now but was very hard on her for about 5 months but she had been very heavy....
Of course you can ask the doc about DEPO too....
Feel better!!!

I got mine on day three while I was still in the hospital. I had done enough reading to know that it was highly likely so I had come prepared with the 'good' pads. It was a rather mild one for me, and not bad at all. However THIS one is another story! I'm going through a tampon and a pad every hour. It's so frustrating. Damn blood thinners! Cramps are worse this time too. Where's menopause when you need it! ;-p
