Sleeping Hard and Sleeping A LOT!

It started small. The day before yesterday I felt a little tired. That was not really anything new since I've needed a nap almost daily. Then yesterday the same thing. I took my nap about noon and lo and behold come 5 pm I was sacked out on the couch until like 10:30 pm. I went to be about 11:30 and slept until 6:45 this morning. I felt FANTASTIC!!! That lasted for a few hours and then it was like my energy was being slowly sucked out of me. I landed (almost in a skid!) on the couch and didn't make it through a half hour program. I woke up and it was almost 5 and I went to sleep about 3:30pm (oprah was on). I'm STILL tired. I don't want to lay around sleeping all day and keep telling my hubby that but he says "Well I don't see you healing and getting over this by depriving yourself of the sleep you so obviously need." (That's why I love him!) But seriously folks, is this normal and part of the routine? Oh I have a post op tomorrow with the surgeon and will be asking him too, it's just that ya'll are sweeter than him! Gayle Queen Of Yarn Balls 320/297/175

From what I understand it is indeed normal. I get that way sometimes as well, but my energy level has been pretty okay. I think it has to do with protein intake as well though. If I feel weak and tired, I will drink one of my protein drinks and instantly I feel better. But your DH is right - you need to listen to your body and give it what it wants. Dina

Gayle sweetie, you are not even a month out from major surgery, heck yeah its normal!!! I am just like you I get up and have my protein shake and then 3 hours later I have my egg and then around 1 in the afternoon that is it for me no matter how hard I try, I'm out. I sleep until 5 or 6 and then Its goodnight for me. Today I had to stay up because I had a doctors appointment at 1:30 and at 5:30 I went to sleep. Well it's 9 pm and now I'm awake! darnit LOL ~Nicole

Gayle - The exhaustion hit me about 3 weeks post op. My mom was keeping the baby for me at her house, so as soon as my 8 yr old left for school, I'd climb back in bed and sleep until noon or so. I felt so guilty, but my body obviously needed the rest. This is the first week that I've had the baby back in the house. I'm 4 weeks post op today and I WISH I could have taken a nap today. I think I'm going to call it a night soon! So - the answer to your question - it's perfectly normal. You've had MAJOR surgery and you need to listen to your body and rest!! Good luck w/ your post op tomorrow. Let us know how it goes! -Wendy

Im in the sleepy-bye club too. I sure hope it gets better by next monday when I have to go back to teach a bunch of first graders... My doc gave me a B12 shot on Friday, and said it would help. Im also looking for the sublingual, as I can use any help I can... Ask your doc if it might be helpful for you too even this early... -Donna

Losing weight takes a lot out of your body (no pun intended). I find I am tired a lot as well but I have had trouble sleeping lately. I say hit the rack when ever you feel like. Aristea
