LET'S STOP BEATING OURSELVES UP!!!
To all fellow WLS buddies:
I have been reading all the messages posted for the last few hours, and an awful lot of you are beating yourselves up for "cheating" on your food choices. I say, "STOP BEATING YOURSELVES UP
FOR MAKING POOR CHOICES!" It is this cycle of self-abasement that got most of us here in WLS-land in the first place! I, too, am guilty of freaking out over stolen jelly beans and "nibbles"
of fudge brownies, but luckily, I received some wise words from my doc's nurse, Christine, and from my sister, Doris, which has stopped my self-abuse cold. In a nutshell: this is YOUR new stomach. You and "it" need to learn it's limitations, likes and dislikes. ONLY YOU CAN DEAL WITH IT, as it belongs to YOU. You need to experiment to discover what you can handle, "get away with", no longer like or no longer tolerate. Yes, you will make mistakes and may or may not have to "pay" for it (dumping, pain,
etc). This is a LEARNING PERIOD for every single one of US.
Try out different foods and make a note of how your body reacted. Expect to make a bunch of mistakes, but forgive yourself and get on with it. NO ONE CAN TELL YOU WHAT/HOW/HOW MUCH TO EAT EXCEPT Y-O-U. As long as you keep a healthy fear of stretching your pouch in the forefront of your mind, chances are that you WON'T go overboard and stretch it out. Having said this, let me tell you that I ate candied yams yesterday, as well as a piece of cake (albeit a small piece), leaving MOST of the frosting on the plate. I waited 20 minutes, telling myself that if I wanted more, I could have it. Well, 20 minutes came and went and then I felt quite full. And happy. And IN CONTROL OF MYSELF. I did NOT dump afterwards. But now that I know I can eat it, I DON'T WANT IT ANYMORE!!!!!!! So, my dear friends, read this and consider where you were, are now, and wish to be. Continue to read and reply to postings, and remember that you are NOT alone. Anyway, thanks for letting me stand on my soapbox and preach to the converted. I found this info helpful, and just wanted to pass it along in the hopes that some of you might find it helpful, too. Now, I shall dismount from said soapbox and give the floor over to the next deserving soul . . . . .
Rita
