What do you do for work?
I have been a nurse for 27 years at the same hospital. I have worked in an ICU for 25 of those years. The work is hard, but I really have to say that I do love my job. I always wanted to be a nurse. For as long as I can remember, that was the only thing that I ever wanted to do. The job can be frustrating, aggravating, physically tiring, and rewarding all at the same time. The main thing I don't like about my job is paperwork.
The paperwork over the years has become unbelievable. The majority of it that has to be done is due to state or JCAH requirements. The job is not glamorous and I'm sure not getting rich from it. But, it's what I do best.

For a long time I worked in the software industry. I worked my way from customer service to Project Manager for major projects. In November 2001 I was laid off (7% of the workforce was laid off at that time). The following January I switched careers and became an Insurance Agent. Did that for 18 months - didn't like the company I worked for - too stringent for me! I decided that it was time to be a Stay at Home Mom and have loved it ever since. Trust me - there are days that I really want to get back into the work force. Two incomes are better than one, but I didn't get this time w/ my 8 yr old when she was little, so I'm really enjoying the time I have with my 13 month old. Both girls keep me busy, but I'm loving it. I may try to look for something with the school district in the fall so I can have the best of both worlds!! For now, I'm looking forward to having the summer with my kids!

I am the Administrative Assistant to the CIO and VP of MIS at the corporate headquarters of Crate & Barrel. (Specialty housewares and Furniture stores across the country). Since he is a computer genius geek type that rose to the top executive position that he is, he is not the typical boss...I don't have to do any secretarial type stuff at all for him, but do the payroll accounting for our whole department of 130, and help with reporting what the projects our department is working on mean to the financial department in terms of software capitalization and budgets. I offer to help out on any computer related tasks as I love it! I do e-mail distribution lists, reports for merchandising, database maintenance and even help the tech crews out occasionally when they need to upgrade software on various pcs....I have started my pre-retiremnt slow down now and only work Mon-Thurs which is really nice. This is my 7th year there and get a great 40% discount off of Crate & Barrel stuff which is usually out of my price range...but finally bought a couch and chair this year.
I work for the Phone Company SBC. I work in the Retention dept wich means that I'm the person you call when you are moving and need to disconnect your telephone service, I also deal with DSL disconnects, and transfering service from one location to another. We also do Dish Sales and other products that the phone company has to offer. It's a very interesting job there are lots of changes within the company so you never really do the same thing over and over.
I work in the Default Administration area of a Mortgage Company. I cordinate 4 people that are applying $ on loans that were in foreclosure or have been foreclosed. It is my responsibility to make sure the funds were applied timely and correctly.
I got a new management team over me 2 months prior to my surgery and they are reconstructing the complete area so I am not sure exactly what I will be doing when I get back. I have over 30 years experience in Default Adminitration in different areas.
There is never a dull moment in this field.
