Hi Everyone, Just wondering... who here can tolerate sugar and how much? I noticed that I can have a sip of something sweet or a small bite of something like chocolate and have no problems I even drank tea which was made from organic cane sugar that had 10 grams of sugar in it and was alright. I am too scared to really "test" the waters more than that but was wondering who can tolerate sugar that had the roux-en-y. Thanks Elizabeth M

Elizabeth, I've had BBQ sauce that is high in sugar and a fortune cookie and neither did anything to upset my system. I haven't tried pushing the limits more than that. My understanding is that only 20% of bypass patients experience dumping with sugar. Connie

I'm too afraid of dumping to even try it. I did have a protein bar that had 6 grams of sugar. Tasted almost like a snickers, only sweeter! I didn't have any problems with it, but I won't try anything else. I don't feel any need to abuse this tool, since I have had no cravings for it anyway. I do agree that if you have an extreme craving that won't go away, a tiny taste is better than nothing - so at least you can get over the craving and move on. mgm

Elizabeth, I have had the Russell Stover Sugar-Free peanut butter cups. They taste exactly like Reeses but are completely sugar-free. Very delicious and one small piece really takes the edge off for me. No reactions to it at all. Maureen

Hi Elizabeth; I've had dumping off of natural sugars so I steer clear of the real stuff. There's so many sugar free things out there that are just as tasty without the sugar problems. One of the gentleman at my church had this procedure 4 years ago and eats sweets with no problem whatsoever and has since he had it done. It may vary some, but like the others have said, I'm not pushing it. Take care, Cheryl

Elizabeth~ I have had a taste of a brownie a couple times in the past few days (my grandma made 'em for my dad and he left 'em at my house, gee thanks, dad) . So far nothing has happened to me, BUT I haven't had more than a nibble. I have been CRAVING Butterfingers and I am a former Butterfinger addict (cut off cold turkey because of surgery). I had such a craving for candy last weekend, that I went to the candy aisle at Super Wal-Mart and bought sugar free peanut butter cups made by Reese's!! They tasted DIVINE. I don't want to press my luck with much more. 2 of those bad boys and my craving was curbed. There are sugar free alternatives to almost everything these days except fruit. Fruit contains massive amounts of sugars (natural). When I was diabetic it would always send my blood sugar soaring! I steer clear. Hugs for you and much willpower for you. Stay away. Don't test the waters Jamie

I haven't tried to have sugar. I'm too afraid of dumping and so far no urge for it. My weight gain has always been due to my sweet tooth and since it is quiet I don't want to wake it up. My dd has a sweet dessert sometimes but can only do it after a meal - never on an empty stomach. Louise

I have yet to try real sugar, but i use splenda and omg it is like the real thing!! sugar free pudding with splenda, yummy and no one can tell its sugar free. I made a loaf of banana bread with splenda, and tried justa morsle, and it was great. Everyone here loved it. and Breyers makes these awesome sugar free popcicles sweetened with splenda, they are to die for. If your scared of sugar and miss the taste, get splenda. Its wonderful. I have not dumped yet and don't want to either. LOL
