Quick Question

I have 3 different diets from 3 different sources. I got one from the hoisptal when I was discharged. The nutritionist gave me one when I went for my consult. And lastly when I had pre-op my surgeon gave me one. now all 3 are different. the first 2 are more similar--liquids and pureed for 4-6 weeks. The one I got from my doc is more varried. According to it I can start adding canned veggies, canned fruit, tuna w/ mayo and a few crackers, chicken etc. I have been to scared to "eat". i drink alot, protien shakes, yogurt smoothies made with splenda, cream soups...etc. But according to the diet from my surgeon I can add more in. My husband says I should listen to my doc and his diet. I went for my 2 week check up and lost 25 pounds. I haven't been hungry. but I haven't had to cook for my family yet either. What do you guys think? Also, how long was it before you were able to sleep really good? i still have lots of pain on both sides, can't turn over. Just wondering. ~~Kym~~ 03/25/04 -25

Kym, I'd listen to the surgeon. It sounds more like the diet I have from my surgeon, but even if it didn't, I'd still advise to follow what he/she says. Connie

When in doubt, MIND YOUR DOC.

I would go with what your surgeon gave you. I had the same issue - 3 different diets - one each from 2 different nutricionists and the thrid from my surgeon. I went with that one. He had me eating real food the day I got home from the hospital, as long as it was mushable with a fork. As far as sleeping and pain - I wasn't completely pain free until about 2 and a half weeks post-op. I am now 3 and a half weeks out, and while there is no pain, sleeping is still sometimes a challange. It's not uncomfortable anymore, and I can now turn without pain, I am only just now beginning to sleep without a pillow cradling my stomach (I sleep on my left side). Although I used to sleep on my right side part of the night, when I do that, it may sound funny, but I feel like my insides are shifting too much and it feels wierd - so I don't do it! mgm

Eating: doing what my doc says not what the nutritionist says.... Sleeping: Not very well. I actually tried to lay in my bed a couple of nights ago and tore open my incision a little. It bled like a stuck pig, and scared the crap out of me!!! I will not try that again for a while. Back to the recliner... Tammy 373/366/150

I got in bed 5 nights ago (of course I have a WATER bed) but for the first 3 mornings I had to get back to the recliner at about 5 AM. BOY was my Pomeranian mad at me - each time she jumped on my legs and just stared at me like "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?? YOU SLEEP WITH ME NOW!" -Sherrie (3/2 down 47)
