Lap band question
I think most of us are RnY patients, but I have a friend who is having lap band next week. I am really too busy to spend a lot of time researching, but would appreciate any insight as to how the recovery period and needs differ from my experience. She does not seem well informed and is not a terribly compliant person (she is a diabetic and has not taken care of herself, and she has bad knees and hips with stress fractures). On the good side, she is very active in spite of her size--not athletic, but busy and constantly on the move. Her doctor has a good reputation--he may have tried to educate her, but she tends to have "selective hearing". It is my mission to make sure she knows what she needs to do to take care of herself post op. I can't make her do it, but I can make sure she hears me and has the knowledge!!!
My assumptions are that she will need protein and fluids and supplements. I know that lap band does not have the malabsorptive properties of RnY, but I assume that reduced volume of food carries the same risk of malnourishment. I also assume that dumping can occur in this as in RnY.
Those of you who are diabetic... did your WLS surgeon modify your insulin, or did your endocrinologist? How do you get them to work together?
Thanks for whatever insight you can provide!!!

Joy,
I'm clueless when it comes to the lapband, but there seems to be a bunch of info on the lapband forum.

I hope your friend makes the most of her opportunity and appreciates what a great friend you are.
Hugs,
