Scales and Weighing - My Opinion Only

From reading hundreds of posts the one thing I can see that causes stressed out folks are scales. More people are worryong themselves to death over what the day to day number is than any single issue. I have decided not to weigh except on the day I go the Dr for checkups and on the monthly anniversary dates of my surgery. I refuse to put myself thru the agony of the daily trip to the scales.

Agreed, Randy. Although I absolutely support everyone in doing whatever they need to do to stay healthy and sane through this journey, I agree that the scale can be every bit as damaging as those nagging voices in our heads, screaming "FEED ME JUNK FOOD!" Your plan of action is a good one and I intend to do likewise. Thanks for your thoughts. God bless and be well. Maureen

I am one of those that steps on the scale each morning. I bought a good digital scale a few weeks before surgery. I keep a claendar beside it and record it each day. It is frustrating to see the scale "stick" or even go up. But the joy of seeing it fall over rides the pain. I deal with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (ocd) and I give myself credit for only getting on once a day. This is the first time in my life that I have seen the scale move down without starvation or torture so I want to enjoy it while it lasts. Everyone has to do what they feel comfortable doing. I would be in a terrible state if I only weighed once a month. For me once a day works. I am learning to cope when the scale fights back. It is all part of my journey. Good luck in your new adventure.

I have decided to weigh myself every 2 weeks. I do not have a home scale so I have to go to my PCP's office. I think this is a good plan for me. I think it will help me when I go through plateaus because we all will. I couldn't deal with seeing nothing move for a whole 2 weeks or more. I don't own a scale, which pleased my doctor immensly. He told me NOT to buy one or I'd go crazy. He said that women tend to lose differently and slower than men so I'd become frustrated. He said to just enjoy the smaller clothes sizes. Cheryl
