I felt the same way, forever. I didn't get to eat anything for 4 weeks. I knew that I didn't want to eat anything that would sabatoge my weight loss. Now that I am eating (pureed foods and cheeses) I am plateauing. It'll be over soon. Also, try checking out vitalady.com. She sells all kinds of protein drinks and samples. Still to this day I can only handle the Champion Pure Whey Stack, but I have gotten to sample some flavors I might enjoy later.
P.S.- I know what you mean about the Taco Bell Taco Salad. That was one of my favorite foods before my surgery.
Well, I can understand why you want to eat and I'm thankful I didn't have to follow a liquid diet right away. I think your cravings will go away when you are able to go to the soft foods diet as you will start to feel that the soft foods are gourmet fare!
But if they don't, fake a Taco Bell style meal with fat free refried beans, Taco Bell taco sauce, etc. Just don't do the tortilla or other things if your surgeon says you shouldn't. About 3 weeks out I was able to have a bologna sandwich wrap with a tortilla that set well and didn't clog me up, but I understand that tortillas can gum up. For me I try to make sure I mix it up if I have anything bready so that it doesn't all fall into the same spot and act like a glue plug.

To answer your question, my husband was running to the store yesterday for a few things. He stopped on his way out and asked, "Would you like anything?" I said without missing a beat, "Sure -- a box of twinkies, potato chips, tortillas with chees dip, cashews, a few bottles of diet coke, oh, and please stop at Wendy's on the way home and get me a double-cheesburger meal. And biggie-size it." He stood there with a pitiful look on his face, he felt so badly for me. He wouldn't go until I said, "I'm just kidding, honey. I'm fine, really I am!" NOT. I can only speak for myself when I say cravings are a part of who I am. It's how I got to be 352 lbs. in the first place. But the cravings live in my head. Sure, there is a physiological response and before surgery that was because I had a stomache the size of a submarine. I just could not keep it satisfied. So i ate, ate, and ate some more. Now, the cravings are dancing around in my head -- and they're real and not fun to have to deal with -- but I can stop a moment, visualize my little pouch (Reenie's Teenie Wonder) and know that I AM satisfied. I AM NOT hungry. Cravings and hunger -- real hunger -- are two different things. Work with your new body and gang up together to bully those cravings right where they belong -- out of your head. God bless and be well, Maureen

I find that the more carbs I eat, the worse the cravings are. That makes it especially hard for the first weeks of this journey, because how many low carb liquids are out there? Soft foods also tend to do this, but if I stay with cottage cheese, pureed meat, egg, cheese etc, I stay much more satisfied.
Honestly, the cravings will probably not go away, but you will eventually get to taste the things you crave. The trick is to learn to be satisfied with a bite or two--remember, that is all we really taste anyway. For now, hang in there--it WILL get easier. And when you see the loss, it will all be worth it.
