Hi its been a while, health scare
Rhen, so glad to hear from you, I've been wondering about you -- and about a whole lot of other folks...what's going on? Give us some more information - how serious is the anemia, what are your symptoms, what is your doctor's prognosis, how is your eating, are you getting in plenty of protein, veggies and fruits? What about hydration? Let's take a look at what's going on with you and then we will be better able to provide some advice and support. Take care, Maureen
I have had an anemia problem lately. I did get it built back up prior to my plastic surgery. I started drinking a glass of wine at night and taking a slower acting iron table called Ferro-Sequels. I also looked at the medications I was on and saw one would cause anemia that I had only been on for about 6 months. I discussed it with the doctor and I stopped taking it. Other than me doing the research my pcp was not much help as to what I needed to do.
Hey everyone,
Well to answer all the questions, my eating has been very little, I was trying to lose my last ten lbs and think that may have alot to do with where I am. Not much meat, little veg and fruit but a little amount of all. Water is going ok but now that it is getting cold its been a struggle to get all my water in.
I am waiting to hear from my doctor again with more results so I will let you guys know all my levels and where she thinks I am at.
The only concern I have with her is she is a family doct. and not my WLS doctor I even ask her if this was common for someone like me 2+ years out and she said no and when I looked up anemia on OBh it said that this is one of the most common times to get anemia 2+ years out. So I dont know I think I am maybe 1 in 2 pat. that she has treated that have gone through wls. I may need to see another dr.
Thanks again for all the replies I will post again to inform you guys and get more advice.
Rhen
Hi Rhen
A couple of months ago I was put on perscription iron capsuls as I was anemic Too!!
They have not brought my iron levels up very far & my Pcp is talking about Iron
infusions if they don't change soon. I am also having a colonoscopy next month due
to som kidney & bowel problems. That could be the cause of the iron drop. I will let
you know if I find out anything that might help you too!!
Hi Rhen;
I'm sorry that you are having these problems. I have not had any problems with anemia so far, so I can't offer any advice from personal experience. I do wonder, however, whether you and some of the other ladies are so worried about losing "that last 10 pounds" or the several pounds that you might have gained from your low point that you are neglecting your nourishment?? While those few pounds may be troubling, when you consider where we all started on this journey, they don't really matter all that much. I think that we should all make sure that we are not malnourished first and then worry about those nagging few pounds. Please take care of yourself and let us know how you are doing.
Mike
Mike, you bring up a good point from the emotional/psychological perspective. We should celebrate our tremendous successes and let go of the numbers. I've posted this over and over again and yet I lead the charge in stressing over these final few pounds. I remember when losing 50 lbs. barely made a dent in how much I still had to lose; now, a 3 lb. gain makes me feel lousy, physically and emotionally. Having said this, it's my experience that despite remaining vigilent on eating healthy, whole foods, getting in adequate amounts of protein, staying well hydrated, and working out regularly, despite this, my bloodwork has consistently come back reporting that I am malnourished and my organs -- particularly my liver -- are being affected. I am tired all of the time and not able to sleep well at all. So obiously my malabsorption issues are reall and causing some strong concern these days. It sounds as if others are dealing with medical issues that are directly related to our WLS as well. We must pay close attention to this. It sounds as if bowel and kidney problems are the most prevelant. Support is critically important now, as it always has been. Stay close, guys, and let us know how things are progressing. M.
Wow! Its seams like anemia is going thru some of us. I gaot a severe anemia back in may and june. The dr. put me in some IV infusions every friday for two months. I was feeling tired all the time , I had like some kind of pains all around and like head lightness. My periods were like light and there was skip for one month. Just try to eat healthy and fresh foods. Take your protein and up your liquids. You will feel better soon. Take care.
