Wound problem...
Ok, Im a little freaked out here. My wound is starting to come apart. Its only like 1/2 cm apart for about an inch, but its weeping some white stuff. I had surgery (open) 3-10, and its been sore in that area for about 2 days. I didn't have the courage or the foresight to look sooner. Is this something I should worry about, or is it normal? The rest looks perfectly fine. Thanks for any advice.

Hey Donna,
My wound (open RNY) also came open and I freaked out. I went to my doctor, she cleaned it with half hydrogen peroxide and half distilled water then used this tube of stuff that makes steri strips stick and used the steri strips to close up any area that was not completely sealed. This worked great. I do have one area that was really wide and it is still healing. But dont worry, your doctor will be able to get it to close up. I have been amazed how much in only one week.

Well, here's what I was told when I ripped myself open. Fat does not heal very well so it is not uncommon for incision sites to come open. Many times the oozey, pus-like stuff coming out is liquified fat and not an infection.
If the area around the opening is red, warm to the touch or you develop a fever, then you've got an infection brewing.

Wow Donna - you got a lot of great responses already, but I just wanted to say that I'm glad you are going in to see someone tomorrow. Sounds like the fat but you never know. I know when my friend had an infection it smelled bad, she said. Hopefully it's just the fat and not a big deal. Keep us posted what they say tomorrow - I'd really like to know!
