Status report from Lee's Sister...

Just talked to Lee and although she sounds a bit groggy, she's doing just fine. She said she had a great deal of pain last night because morphine just doesn't do it for her but they got her on something else and she's in no pain now. Her surgery took over 5 hours because they lost two assistants (one passed out, do you believe that?) and had to find replacements. Okey dokey. She also ran a low-grade fever, but they think they've got that under control. Right now she is feeling no pain, no nausea, just tiredness. Oh, and she's got a little cough, but the docs say that's actually a good thing (helps get lungs back to work.) She gets to come home tomorrow and is quite looking forward to that. She walked once yesterday and once so far this morning, but she's going to try to get some sleep before heading out again. As y'all know, hospitals aren't the best places for resting so she got almost no sleep last night. That's the thing I remember most from my surgery was the overwhelming sleepiness and no way to relieve it. She said to tell you all she is fine and just so happy to be on the other side. I want to tell you all how much it means to me she was able to find a loving community among you. She and I are close, and I've had the surgery too, but there's nobody like your month-mates. Best of luck to every one of you big losers! Jessie S. (Lee's sis)

HOLY COW! That is a long surgery and what luck to have someone pass out on you in surgery! Yikes! I'm glad she is doing good - and tell her to keep coughing that gunk up. I didn't have that with my first surgery (gallbladder) so I was surprised when it happened with this surgery. I was trying to convey I was coughing up green stuff to the nurses in my Mexico hospital and had to show them. They immediately caught onto my concern and were able to say "that's normal" so I knew not to worry. Had one nurse who helped pound my back while I coughed and wow - it really did help a lot. I didn't have to do so much of the work on my own! Look forward to hearing another update soon! Glad she is doing well... Dina
