Help!!
Hi all--I had lap RNY on 3/1/04...have had no complications...and lost 10 lbs 1st week, 10 lbs 2nd week, 14 lbs 3rd week....and 4lbs (??!!)
last week. I am following my diet, except not getting all protein in, and can't understand the drop in weight loss. Should I be concerned? Is this a "plateau"? The scale is not moving!!!
Thanks,
Melissa

There is nothing wrong--you are doing great! Every few weeks your loss stops for your body to catch up with itself. I had surgery the same day as you. My weekly losses:
8
9
4
2
As of today I have lost 25 lbs.
Do not expect to lose as much next month as you did this month, but it will not stop. Make sure you are getting in your protein and fluids and exercise. Perhaps add to the protein when you stall to encourage your body to turn loose of some more, but it will come. I think we all tend to panic because of our earlier dieting experiences, but I have read enough profiles of people further along to know this is normal between 3-5 weeks out, and periodically after that. (I'll trade losses with you!!!)

Melissa,
You can't expect to keep up at the 10+ pounds per week. My suggestion would be to get that protein and keep up the fluids. Your body compostion may be shifting and you are losing inches that don't show on the scale.
Keep up the good work!

Hi Melissa,
I agree with the person who posted the other day to someone else who thought she was plateauing. She said a plateau is several weeks without a weight loss, not several days. It's easy to get spoiled by the losses as the pounds just melt off some days and don't others! I'm there too!
Here is a link to a wonderful website which will show you one woman's weight loss. You'll notice that in one span she only lost 23 pounds for an entire six months. Just remember, you've probably never taken weight off this fast before! Your body doesn't know what to do!

Give yourself time, and I'd recommend weighing less often. You don't want your days to be made or broken by the scale! Good luck!

-35 lbs!!!! Yayyyy
A riddle a day will keep the Marchers pounds AWAY!

Break out that tape measure, I bet something good is happening! Not sure what you mean by "not getting all the protein in." I had surgery 3/2 and am still working up to my alotment as I ajust to food and heal. As long as you're got a strategy to end up at 60 grams in time (dictated by your doctor) that's fine. If you're having trouble complying, that's another story, one we have all told at some point in our lives. Find the proteins you like and stick to them for a while.
