Tonight I just so badly wanted to eat normally. I ate a whole filet of fish and wish I could urp it up. I'm about as miserable as I can be. Never, never again. Connie

Eating normally is going to have to mean that we can eat many/most of the things that other thin people eat. It will NEVER mean eating the quanities that we used to eat or even that other people eat! It will take us all a while to readjust the picture that comes to our mind of an "ideal" meal to something we can actually eat. Something that someone said before I had surgery, describing a binge on cookies, has stuck in my mind and is really helping me. They said they ate a whole package of cookies, but really only tasted the first bite. I realize that the statement is true of most of what I eat. I can get as much enjoyment out of eating a little bit as a lot--I only really taste the first bite or so anyway and my stomach is full at the end. If I define an enjoyable meal that way, I can do that--enjoy the taste and be full! Sorry you are miserable now! Joy

I know what you mean Connie, my biggest problem is remembering to eat slowly and mindfully. It doesn't take too long before I remember I can't eat as much as I put on my plate! That full feeling is just the worst!!! I've discovered that if I go sit quietly for about 5-10 minutes the feeling passes. Luckily it doesn't take long to go away. I wish I could guzzle something liquid and not feel overly stuffed after three gulps. I also wish I could drink diet sodas again - I REALLY enjoyed them - lived off them! Now all I taste is the sodium and the fizz feels awful in my tummy. Still, I think it's a small price to pay. These new habits are just going to take some serious time and attention to develop. It's all trial and error at this point - still. -Eve
