lack of energy
Hi all;
I tried to go back to work today and failed miserably. I had to get a sub for the rest of the week and was gone from work by 10:30 a.m. I came home and just crashed. I was exhausted, shaking and felt like bawling. I have a huge lack of energy that I'm finding tough to beat. I went to church yesterday and after 1.5 hours, I came home and slept for 3. Then after church last night i came home and went to bed. I'm not depressed, just exhausted. My hubby says I need to kick up my walking from 1 mile to at least 2 and that will help. Now i just need to find the energy to do that.
Have any other post-ops had this problem?
I'm taking all of my viatmins and getting my protein in no problem.

I think it is pretty typical. You just may be demanding more than your body can do. You have had major surgery and a severe drop in calories. Your body has to adjust to both. Fatigue is the natural result of the body trying to preserve resources. Teaching is not a sedentary job. It just may demand more than you can give right now. Sorry--I know that was not what you wanted to hear. I know I could not do that at this point!

Its normal. I have days where I feel like I could go on forever and then days like today I just want to lay on the couch and veg. Im sure it is our bodies just getting used to the lack of cals. Just do what you can and thats all we can ask for. Good luck to you and try to rest on this last week off.

I had surgery on the same day as you, and have the same lack of energy. Like Joy said, the surgery was only a few weeks ago. I think it takes about 6 weeks to really recover. I'm having a hard time dealing with work too. I had my post-op appt. today and the doc told me my iron and B-12 levels were low going into surgery. I was given a prescrip for B-12 and have to take iron supplements. Hopefully that will help boost my energy level.
Take care,

Cheryl,
Today was my first day back at work and I'm EXHAUSTED. I thought I'd be fine since I've been working around the house and have had lots of energy. I have a desk job so I thought I'd be fine sitting all day. I did manage to make it to the gym, but was too tired to walk more than 15 minutes so I rode the bike for another 10. It's only 7:00 and I feel like I could fall asleep on my feet.

I had my surgery on 3/2 and I get so tired I keep wondering how I will return to work on the 14th of April - I am taking the full 6 weeks Aetna approved me because I feel tired so often! BUT I was always tired before too, but now I am not tired because I am immobilized. so thats an improvement!
