Infected Incision

I had lap RNY on 3-17 and came home on the 20th. My recovery has been going well- more range of motion each day, walking a mile each day- then yesterday my largest incision became tender and by today it was red and puffy- infected. Went to the emergency room for 5 hours and got an IV of antibiotics. Have antibiotics to take for 2 weeks. They did not lance or drain the incision. there has been no discharge. my fever was 99. If you have any of these symptoms, get it taken care of sooner than later. If I had waited, they said I would have been hospitalized. I am very sore, but I should be better by Monday.

Hi Lucy, I too am having this problem. Got started on antibiotics yesterday also. They told me even with antibiotics to keep an eye on it and get back in if the area of redness gets larger or it looks worse in any way. Did they tell you this? Just curious. Lucy, Sorry you are having this problem. Glad you caught it quickly. If you fever goes up, call them back!!! I hope next week, this is just a memory. Joy
