My scale has not moved but a lb or 2 is this normal? I am on a liquid diet and drinking my water in fact I am hardly eating anything. Also I am so swollen still. Just wondering if anyone else did not loose the first week. I know I am so impatient. Thanks Sandy

Don't panic, it will. The same thing happened to me. Be sure to get some protein in along with the liquids! We are all impatient! Don't worry about that! Joy -23 lbs / 24 days

I am one week today (3-18-04) and an still 8 LBS up--so not only no loss, but a 15# gain in the hospital. Dr''s office assures me it is from all the fluid build-up in surgery and the hospital. Very disappointing though--at the moment, after nothing but liquids for 9 days--my body is trying valiantly to hold on to the lbs! I would take your situation to be even as not great, but better than a gain!8..Hang in there--it's gotta come out somewhere.. Terry

Well I carefully worded it that I was 9 lbs down from the last time I was at the doctor before surgery...but in the meantime I went down 8 lbs with the 2 day liquids, then up 15 lbs with fluids from the hospital....LOL so who knows that first week what is what? If I get very technical I am only 1 lb down instead of the 9. Let's not worry about it unless in the next couple months it goes the opposite direction.

Don't worry, the same thing happened to me too. All the IV fluids that were pumped inside you has your weight up a little. In a few more days you'll notice a big difference! Good Luck, Karen L.

My advice STEP AWAY FROM THE SCALE Follow your eating and exercise plan and you WILL lose a heck of a lot of weight. Try not to worry about your weight too frequently as it can cause you undue stress and if you're like most of us, stress makes us want to EAT! You'll do fine.

STEP AWAY FROM THE SCALE! I wonder if scales can be fitted with that alarm, as some cars have the alarms that say "STEP AWAY FROM THE CAR!". Kimmer Queen of the Niners, Instigator to All Marchers, High Priestess of Giggles

Hi Sandy, I agree with all the wise responses. Just remember, this is simply a matter of physics. You're inputting next to nothing and your resting metabolism is probably in the 1500-2000 calories a day range. That's a big deficit each and every day considering you're probably intaking a third of that (if that much.) The gas, the fluids you're holding, and other factors will dissipate in time and your weight loss will show. You're not doing anything wrong! In a few days you'll probably register a major drop! -Eve

Sandy... Like the others said...don't worry - it will come. Make sure you are eating though...the less you eat...believe it or not the less you will lose. Someone early on gave me that advice. 8 months out and I have lost 150lbs. So it will come. Protein Protein and more Protien. Get it any way you can. Take your vitamins and stay on track and it will come off. And...as soon as you can - get some physical activity going...short/long walks whatever you can handle...nothing too strenuous though. Good Luck!
