Hi All, I had my surgery on March 15th. Things went really great and I even came home a day early. My problem is the pureed foods for the next 6 weeks. I'm curious how this is going or went for the rest of you. Any words of advice? I know it will be so worth it in the long run. But, that doesn't make it any easier making meals for my family and sitting with them eating my 2oz. of baby food. How long til real food is introduced? Thanks for your feedback. Lisa

Hi Lisa! Congratulations on your entry to the LOSING side!!! I haven't hit the pureed stage yet but I can tell you what my Dr. told me. The foods either need to be pureed in the blender or mashed really well with a fork so that there are no (or very small) chunks in the food. As for how long until real food is introduced, that probably depends on your Dr. I know that I have to have pureed/mashed foods for 3 weeks but I think all Dr.'s are a little different. My suggestion would be to call your Dr.'s office and ask them how long you are to be on this stage of food. That is your best thing to do here so that you are following your Dr.'s orders. Hope that helps! You are in my prayers! Well, I think it depends on the doctor moreso than the average. I have been on soft foods since day 4 and have been doing crackers and pureed meats for a week now. Dina -16

Check with your doctor for a list...I am sure they have some guideline. I am 1 day after you and can have pureed or blenderized chicken, salmon, white fish, beans now in week 2. In week 4 I can have chicken breast, ground turkey, blended, well cooked veggies, boiled and blended. In week 6 I can have fresh fruit with no skins. In week 12 I can have salad and greens.

I just "graduated" to pureed/blenderized food yesterday. My surgeon/nutritionist are pretty strict on their eating schedules and foodstuffs, so I was THRILLED with this. They both said I can eat ANYTHING I can tolerate AS LONG AS it's blenderized to a puree (case in point: I said "cool...gonna get my favorite Quiznos Sub first..." trying to goad them into an objection, but they agreed with it, as long as I nix the bread...WAY cool!). The way to do this with regular food is to add a bit of broth, milk, or liquid to the food before you throw it into the blender/food processor. A friend of mine who had WLS told me this really isn't bad at all...it tastes the same as the real "chunked up" state it comes in (i.e. meats, veggies, etc), but that it LOOKS bleech-y. You're fortunate that you have a family that you'll be cooking for (she says "Sheeya, right..."...) but the advantage is that you'll have "real" food that you can take a bit to throw into a blender. I live alone, and it's just not feasible for me to make even a small "meal" to do this with, so I'm currently snarfin' down baby food (which isn't all bad once you add spices...). I'm also high-tailing it to the store today to grab some "Lean Cuisines"...nutritionist told me to divide a Lean Cuisine type of frozen meal in half or thirds, blenderize half at a time, and eat that. Works for me...I'm gonna try it (been eating Lean Cuisines for what seems like lifetimes now...I'd take 'em for lunches at work 'n they're downright yummy, as are W.W. "Bistro" meals). Hope that helps a bit. We'll get thru this part...and just think of the results of our tenacity!! Kimmer Queen of the Niners, Instigator to All Marchers, High Priestess of Giggles

Hi Lisa, I had a little bit of Egg Beaters and not quite half a piece of toast my third day home from the hospital. I know that's unusual though. It's just strange how doctors' recommendations vary, but yours is the absolute LONGEST period of soft foods I've ever heard of! Six weeks! Wow. Four weeks was the longest I'd heard of. Better safe than sorry I guess, but I wouldn't be able to do it! -Eve

Lisa, it seems that every doc is different. My doc had me on pureed for only 2 weeks and now I am free to eat whatever. I know some who are on it for 6 weeks. I know some who are on liquids for 2 nd then pureed for 6. I wish I could help some more. Bethany AKA Da Offishal Riddler and Bertha 23 Days into NewPouch and feeling great! -28 lbs!!!! I'm on soft foods for 4 weeks, but I'm not eating baby food! Sometimes I eat cottage cheese or yogurt. Sometimes refried beans with cheese and taco sauce. Mashed potatoes or baked potato with cheese and sour cream. SF pudding for dessert. I don't know if these are OK on your diet, but if they are, find something you like!!! Joy
