Very Upset!!!!!!!!!
Well MMPC called today, and well my insurance will only cover $10,000. and that is total. Seems they have a cap of $10,000. for any weight loss program in a lifetime. That includes doctors, office calls, and hospital.
So I won't be having sugery.............
It really upsets me that I work my butt off and a single mom with a special needs child and I pay and pay insurance and copayments. almost everyday of my life for her. and now I cann't even get one thing done that I really want.
I cann't get mad and quit because with a special needs child believe me I need the insurance.
It's really sad that the government lets our insurance providers dicktate our lifes in such a way that they can put caps on programs. Heck you know that soon it will keep up and when someone comes down with heart problems, cancer, something that they are going to die from, they will say O- by the way you have reached your $10,000. cap for a lifetime so we are not covering anything else.
I just had to vent...... I really want to get all this extra weight off, and now I don't have a clue how.
Thanks for listening.

I'm soooo sorry Mary!
All I can offer is that maybe, in time, you will have a new job with different insurance which will cover the procedure.
They had what they called a "Medical (as opposed to surgical) Weight Loss" Program at my hospital. They were doing Opti-Fast. Maybe this could be a way to go in the meantime?
Barring that, I really believe in Weigh****chers. I don't know what to tell you. I think you're right, it's just scary that there are no caps on what you have to pay IN, but there are caps on what they will pay OUT.

Is it possible for you to swing buying your own medical policy for a few months? If you get a policy with Medica perhaps they will apporve the wole thing. They paid for my procedure and I just got a statement in the mail saying that the total cost for the procedure was 26,000 + Maybe paying the whole premium for a few months will enable you to get it done. Then you could switch back to the policy offered by your employer. I do not know if it would work but you could try it.
Mary -
Is there any chance they will pay a doctor outside the US in Mexico at all? You can get it done for under $10,000 in Mexico. I just had my open rny by Dr. Aguirre in Ensenada for $8500. Might be worth checking into. In fact you may ask if they reimburse - you could charge it and then have insurance reimburse later.
Good luck!
