My new Food and Drink finds

Since I am lactose intolerant right now anyway, I need a temporary protein shake until I see the surgeon on Wednesday....so I drove to the store today...isn't that neat? They said as long as I was not on pain pills and could wear my seat belt comfortably, I could drive. Anyway I was searching and scouring the shelves for new and interesting soy products. I mixed 16 ounces of Sugar Free Soy Slender Soy Milk in Vanilla with a couple strawberries in the blender with 1/2 of my whey powder and it tasted good and no bad reaction...so maybe I can still use the Whey powder. There was 12 g of protein in the soy and another 12.5 in the whey so I managed to get almost a 25 gram shake. Anyone hear of Soy Slender? I also bought Silk soy milk to try tomorrow and found some wonderful soups called "Imagine" Organic soup made with soy milk. One is creamy broccoli and one is creamy mushroom and one is potato leek. All have about 6 grams in the box (they come liquid in a box instead of a can) which will be about 4 servings right now...and then for a little bit later I found "Pillar Rock" Salmon Plus, which is skinless, boneless salmon with onion lemons and capers....3.5 oz can which has 22 grams of protein. I know seafood is going to be allowed too soon and scallops were on sale so I bought them and thought about preparing a seafood soup with them in the blender...what do you think?

I cheated and grilled 2 scallops on my George Foreman grill for dinner one night last week. I chewed a lot and Pepe seemed to like them! (Whoever thought that 2 scallops would make a dinner? LOL!) Joy

Sally, I have been using soy products for over a year and love my Silk! I haven't tried any of the soy soups but will put them on my list. I'm having RNY on 3/29 and am watching for foods that are high protein for my first and second eight week menus so will look for the Imagine soups and the Pillar Rock salmon. When eating 1 oz an hour 10-12 times per day (per my dr) how DO you get in 60g of protein a a day?

It is mathematically impossible to do so...lol I finally figured that out. My surgeon told me not to worry about it the first week, just experiment with what is good and what isn't. She is really cool. The ONLY way you can get 60 grams is for the protein shakes to be counted as "fluid" where you can just keep sipping and have more than 1 oz. I am so glad I finally figured out the dairy was causing diarrhea and headaches....since I gave dairy up my bowels finally went through the right cycle. Soy tastes fine to me...did you find a protein powder with soy that you like?

Getting in the protein is a piece of cake (sorry for the BAD FOOD analogy). I use Beneprotein (altho others use different brands), which is a tasteless/odorless whey isolate. I put that stuff in EVERYTHING, and you can't even tell it's in there. I 'goofed' the other day and hit 97 g. of protein on Thursday...kinda scared me, don't want any kidney problems. So I'm now sticking to putting it in SOME stuff. But it's really NOT been a problem whatsoever for me. You can get the Beneprotein online from walgreens.com...$10.99 for a canister that's so far lasted me 1.5 weeks. IMHO, it's the ONLY way to go... I see others struggling to get their protein in and keep thinking "...this is so easy...why don't they just try it?". FYI... I am having a hard time with the protein suppliments!!!! Where did you get this kind from??? I am scared, I am only getting in about 25 grams a days!! And that is hard! Even tried to get the liquid protein and just do a shot here and there through out the day, but that was harsh!!! Jen T 13 days Post Op -18 pounds
