Since surgery I've had a bad time with lots of nausea. Therefore I've had a hard time getting my protein and my fluid in everyday. Plus I've had a real serious case of the dreaded "Left Shoulder Pain" that could only be relieved with the demerol they sent me home with after surgery. I say all that to say this - I measured today and weighed. Since the day before surgery I've lost only 6 lbs. But I've lost 19.5 inches...and yes I measured in all the same places. My belly is still slightly swollen, but I can tell a difference in the mirror. Am I ??? only 6 lbs...but 19.5 inches???? Have you been walking?

Rob, Not as much as I'd like, I've spent too much time sleeping off the pain pills. But I do walk around my house a lot (2000 sq ft, open floor plan) and then in the evening my hubby takes me for a walk in the neighborhood. Va

Well I was going to say maybe you've gained some muscle and lost some fat. It's great that you've lost the inches. I'm sure the pounds will come off soon enough. Maybe the pain meds are slowing your metabolism?

Hi Va, The pain is a dreaded gas bubble. I`ve had one all day and finally had to go back to bed. Gas-x is ok to take (chewable) and does help. Me being a dummie didn`t measure before surgery but plan on doing so tonight when DH comes home. I don`t get much walking either only inside we live in Ohio and have had 2 dumps of snow this week and I`m deathly afraid of slipping or falling. To lose all those inches is awesome, the pounds will come off don`t beat your self up girl!!! Debbie -14 in 8 days

IT MAKES TOTAL SENSE AND YER NOT NUTS!!!! I have a friend that this keeps happening to. She asked her doc and what he said is that the cells are redistributing them selves and that what will happen is this: Next the inches will stop and the pounds will FLY off! My friend alternates between losing inches and losing pounds. So, don't discourage and don't flip out. Your body knows what to do! Gayle Queen of Yarn Balls

Well, as Rob said, muscle is denser than fat. But then so is water! I'm guessing that you are still retaining water because of the dehydration, but you are still burning fat for energy because of the calorie reduction. The water will come off when you can drink sufficiently. How long does the doc think the shoulder pain will last? Has he checked to make sure both lungs are inflated properly? They should have hooked a vacuum hose to you before sewing up!! I hope Pouchling decides to take to food and drink a bit better as he matures...

Va, Hunney!!! Hey, ain't it GREAT to be on THIS side of the Newpouch City Limits? I had that terrible non-stop nausea from the morphine, and they gave me Phenergan shots round-the-clock. Can't say it helped 'til they took the morphine away, but if it persists, maybe the Dr. can call some in for you? I used to have to take Phenergan syrup for bronchitis, so I know it comes in "clear fluid" form....hehehe... I've had a BIZARRE head-pain since post-op: not a headache, but every time my pain meds let up, a different spot on my head HURTS, dagger-like. I'm headache-y every day of my life, so I guess I tolerate 'em better than most, but Dr. Wonderful (my surgeon) just called and he said it MAY be a post-anesthesia thing, just to take whatever I usually take for my headaches. Works for me. Man, I wish ALL of you had my Doc! As for the pounds vs. inches, I read the reasoning behind this way long time ago on one of the main sites. Don't remember why (I'm not much help here today, am I?), but it's normal. Personally, I'm stunned: I haven't measured myself, but Queen Mum asked if I've weighed myself, and I told her no, that I'm not going to be one of those scale-watchers (nothing wrong with it, I've just NEVER been one and don't intend to start now). But just for s#its and grins, I weighed myself - 8 pounds gone. Holy Lardballs, Batman, where'd it GO? My stomach looks like the Blue Ridge Mountains, all bumpy and distended, but I'm already 8 pounds down? I'm so amazed!! I mean, I should have GAINED 8 pounds by now with all the fluids I've taken in...I've always been a "sipper", always had a bottle of water or something in my hand pre-op, so this is not a problem for me. But 8 gone? I'm speechless (and you KNOW that doesn't happen often...)... I'm prayin' for ya, gal...I just got done arm-wrestling that persistent nausea yesterday, and I'm gonna tell ya, I don't EVER wanna go there again!! I'd rather eat dog boogers, I think...(hey, did that help ya hurl? If not, I'll think of something better...only trying to help...) I had this explained to me but I forgot the exact words so just try to follow me. A pound of fat is the size of a loaf of bread and a pound of muscle is the size of your fist. So if you lose 1lb look at all the inches you are losing. Does that make sense? Hope it helps. LaDonna
