Does anyone know when you can start drinking coffee after surgery, my surgery is scheduled for the 25th, and I am already dreading the caffeine withdrawals!!!!!!!!!!

I am not a coffee drinker, but a regular tea drinker and I assumed I was giving up caffeine for good....with an occasional treat.

Do yourself a favor and get off of it before! I was a major addict and cut back to no caffeine after noon, then only one cup per am, then 1/2 and 1/2 with decaf, then none. It took about 10 days, but I avoided the headache. You do not want the headache while you are dealing with post-op!!! They will let you have decaf immediately--it is a clear liquid. You can put artificial sweetner in it, but not creamer. When you get to full liquids you can add skim milk. Some drs say NEVER caffiene again. It does tend to dehydrate you. Some say one cup OK, but drink and extra equal amount of decaf fluid to compensate (in addition to 64 oz per day). Now that I have physically kicked it, I plan to NEVER get myself hooked. Right now I miss the Diet Dr. Pepper more than the coffee--at least there is a substitute coffee. Oh well, the things we do for our kids... Pepe le Pouch is worth it! Joy

My surgeon's office said coffee did not qualify as clear but tea did. Strange the differences, huh?

That is strange. They brought me decaf on my tray in the hospital when I was on clear liquids. Go figure... Joy
