My surgeon told me he could do the lap, but, got to the very last stitch and the endoscope was blowing air into my abdomen, so they had to open me up. Has anyone else had this experience? If so, what was your recovery like? Surgery was done 2/20/04. Thanks.

Hi Kris, You probably won't get much help here since this is the March 2004 board, most of us are waiting to have surgery and those who have had surgery so far this month are likely not far enough out to be of any help to you. You might try one of the main boards or a board for another month further back like January or even into last year. Hope you find the answers to your questions! I would think that your recovery would be like any other open patient with the added possible discomfort of gas pains during the first week post op. I can't think why it should be any worse other than that. I had 2 open surgeries the same day 3/1 (open rny and open hysterectomy) and don't think my recovery is much the worse for it, other than two sore sites! What is your experience with it? Joy
