I am only 8 days post op but I have a couple of dinners that I have to attend next week. I was wondering if anyone has tried french onion soup........you know, the good kind with the baked cheese on top.......so soon after surgery. Anyway.....could really use some suggestions for dining out with only a couple of weeks under my belt. Thanks. Joann

How are you doing? Apparently OK if you are planning social occasions! The trouble with french onion soup is that the bread may be doughy and get stuck. It might also be hard to chew the stringy thick cheese. What diet will you be on? And what kind of places are you going to? A baked potato might work for a soft diet. You might be best off eating at home, saying you are on a diet, and ordering a drink. Joy

I have french onion many times. Usually that is what I order. Either order it with no croutons or just push them to the side. Don't eat the croutons It is very good it feels good to have something enjoyable too.

That is cool to know! The cheese wouldn't have bothered you at 2 weeks post op? Joy

When my husband was a few weeks post op he ordered the onion soup without the bread or the cheese.

At about 10 days post op I ate canned french onion soup with melted parmesan cheese at home. I didn't have any bread, but went down (and stayed down) great!
