Hi everyone and especially First Weekers,
How are you guys doing? I find that I'm feeling a little better and stronger every day. It's still hard to do everything. Boy, I feel every single pound on my frame.
My back has obviously been overcompensating for my stomach muscles and I have mild to medium back cramps. Even laying flat doesn't help. It's hard to get comfortable.
I ate a little more today which is probably another reason I feel better today. I was able to finish almost a whole can of Campbell's Healthy Request Tomato soup throughout the day and I also had a couple tablespoons of some refried beans with a tiny sprinkle of 2% sharp cheese mixed in. I'm tolerating these things fine. It just feels so good to eat a little real food.
I haven't been taking any pain medicine the last couple of days. Swallowing the pill pieces make me feel kind of queasy so I only take my nausea medicine when I really need it. It's good though because that medicine also helps me sleep.
The gas finally seems to be subsiding. I'm just left with the most uncomfortable feeling (lessening as time goes on) that feels like I've been punched really hard in the gut/had the wind knocked out of me. (That is such an awful feeling!)
How are you other first weekers doing? I'm really interested to hear!
Eve
Sounds like you are doing well! Especially in the eating. Be careful, don't overdo it though!
I can sure relate to the backache. I usually take Celebrex and am really missing it!
So glad you posted. One by one, the first weekers have been checking in. Most are doing quite well. A few are still struggling.
Keep in touch,
Joy
Hi Eve.
I am 8 days post op now and feeling a whole lot better. I had bad nausea last week but i think it was due to pain meds, once I quit taking them I started feeling better. My first post op follow up with doc is tommorrow.
According to my scale at home I have gone from 353 to 333. it will be interesting to see if this is accurate.
The pain from lap incisions is not to bad now, but I still can't sleep on my side for long.
As far as eating goes I have been sticking to clear liquids only. but that is getting old real fast. I think I will try tomato soup today.
Good luck to all
Mark
Hi Eve,
I am doing extremely well, better than I would have ever expected. I am able to eat creamed soups, yougurt, cottage cheese., along with the other clear things. Nothing has made me think OH OH bad choice, yet! Tonight i am going to try a little baked fish. Last night for dinner, I scooped two tablespoons of cream of chicken soup out of the can mixed in a dab of milk, warmed it, then mixed in a 1/4 cup of mashed potatoes. It was heavenly, like mashed potatoes and gravy. I find I can only eat about 1/4 cup at a time, anymore than that and I stay way too full to keep drinking my fluids. I have only been eating 2 times a day, but today I am going to force myself to eat 3 times. I know I need to get in the habit of eating more times a day, but I am just too full then. What an odd feeling to be too full to want to eat. I have no cravings and have found that cooking for my family is easier than I tought it might be. I enjoy watching them loving what I make. So far I have lost 28 lbs. that is amazing to me too. I have not needed any pain medicine since day of surgery and feel WONDERFUL! I can already feel a good difference in my back pain from losing the 28 lbs, and my feet dont ache near as bad. This has been the greatest blessing in my left, well, next to my husband and children.

Hi Eve, I am a week post op now and feeling pretty good. I was worried that I may not be getting enough of my protien in or nutrients for that matter so I called my dietician. She said I was doing fine right now but to try and get more protien in. Last night for dinner I had like 1 oz of mash potatos with a delicious tomato gravy over it and 1 oz of peas. I do not know if that is enough but it is hard to tell right now. I do not want to eat until I get sick. I am abou to eat lunch and I think I am going to have some more mash potatos and peas lol...or I might have a deviled egg if I can handle it. As far as weight, I do not know how much I have lost so far. I will find out on the 17th ...seems forever away.

Hi Bethany,
I'm so glad you said what you said. I know I'm not getting all my water or nutrients in right now either. But what I'm keeping in mind is that during all the times I've crash dieted in the past, fasted (one time I fasted for twelve days!), took laxatives, vomited, etc., I sure wasn't doing my body much of a service! I think while I'm healing right now I can take it a little easy on myself.
But I know I will heal faster with more nutrients and water - but it simply isn't physically possible to intake that much right now.
This really is such a personal adventure, you know? I mean, the RNY procedure is basically the same for everyone, but we all have such different bodies and medical histories and instructions and we're all dealing with it nutritionally in such different ways. I know people who are told that they are supposed to have a clear and then soft liquid diet for a month afterwards! A month!
Fahgeddabowdit!
