All you March post ops, did you have a private or semi private room? Is one way better that the other? Thanks........

good question! I would like to know too...I had a private with my hysterectomy and it was very nice, but nowadays insurance makes you pay extra I think.

My hospital allows you to ask for a private room if you want it only when you check in. I did, but it did not matter. The room they happened to have was a private room that they use for the first 24 hours post op. They never had another room available so did not move me! Also, in my hospital the bariatric beds are enough larger that they are always in private rooms. Joy

My friend just had hers last Friday. We are having the surgery at Rush hospital in Chicago. I was surprised to find out that all of their rooms are private. I hope the same for you!

I am paying the extra $50 a day for a private room. That way my girl friend can stay with me and help me. Of course, I only get a private room if one is avaliable.

PRIVATE, my hospital has only private rooms. But if you can afford the payment for the difference I suggest it. You will never be sad that you did it. Its nice to be able to watch what you want on TV, sing or sigh in releif, talk to yourself, and lets face it once the stomach starts working again you can relevie yourself all you want, and no one knows what it sounds like but you! (It starts to happen about 24-36 hours after surgery) My only choice would be private. Hope this helps ,Janelle

I had a private room, but it is the hospital's policy. They do that to try to cut down on infection rates, etc.... Va

Private is way better because of some of the sensitive issues of getting your plumbing going again. Also, I noticed (I had a 3/2 date) that many people have a lot of visitors. I had an atypical level of pain and didn't even want to see visitors outside of my immediate family. Even if I hadn't felt too bad, I can't say I would have thought it was a party. I wanted the time to get used to things. If, when you are admitted, you must share -- this often depends on what's going on in your hospital and may not be completely under their control --- ask if you can be moved. If you can't be accommodated, ask if you can move as soon as a private room comes available. And don't hesitate to be firm about it. It made it all so much easier and pleasanter to have a little privacy. Good luck!
