driving after surgery
Hi Kerry !
I can't answer you from a post-op point of view because I haven't had my surgery yet (3/11). But I do know from talking to my surgeon that I'm not supposed to drive until my post op appointment which is 7 - 10 days after my surgery. They don't want you driving too soon for several reasons. One being the pain medication can make you drowsy. Another is that you will be protective of your abdomen and may not react as quickly to move your foot from gas to brake etc. Another reason is that if you do get in an accident your stomach will likely hit or be hit by the steering wheel and can cause damage to your incisions and possibly your restructured insides.
I think your best bet is to call your Dr.'s office and ask them what they advise. I hope this helps.

I haven't had my surgery either, but my doctor has said that it will be 2 weeks. I will go back to see him about a week after I am released from the hospital, at that point he will assess when I will be released to drive. I know when I had my hysterectomy it was 2 weeks before I could drive.
