Home from Surgery
My surgery was Tuesday RYN Open. Thank you for your prayers. I was completely relaxed. No fear at all. I felt the peace of God. I felt like I was on my way to have a nice nap.
There were no complications. Dr took out my drain today (weird feeling) and said things look good.
Got home at noon today, I'm still in pain. I weighed immediately--and gained 5 lbs! after not eating for a week. Assume its water (but my underwear feel loose).
I'm looking forward to the future. Things were so busy in the hospital I lost focus I'm going to soon be a looser. I quite the pain pump Thursday. Morphine is not for me. There are things you must do in the hospital. Suck on a breath machine, walk, etc. The morphine made me so out of it I couldn't remember to do those simple things. I switched to percoset. I was taking two now down to one. I could use two but I'm
sensitive to meds and was really slurring my words. My hubby asked me to cut back- he felt I was too "out of it." I wasn't quite prepared for the pain. (I've had several babies natural so I'm no baby.) Just giving you a bit of a heads up, it'll be worth it.
I was treated like a queen before surgery and in recovery (5 hours). But once I was moved to a regular room it was hard to get someone to answer your call bell. It was a great bunch of nurses but they were overworked and much too busy.
I'm on pureed foods. Amazing. Typical dinner is 2 Tbls meat, 1 tbls veg and 1 tbls fruit. And I couldn't fini****! Breakfast 2 tbls cottage cheese and 1 tbls applesauce.
My lips are cracked and sore. I had lib balm in my purse but decided at the last minute not to bring my purse. Big mistake, my libs are cracked. The lib balm they gave in the hospital was not strong enough. Take a good lib balm you will need it.
I signed a paper from Dr to try a new procedure on me. It's kind of a plastic that protects your organs while the dr is working on the stomach. It tests well in bowel patients and now I'm one of the first bypass patients to receive it. It sounded good to me. The dr likes it. He said it keeps everything neat and should reduce infections. We will see.
Tuesday I go get my staples out.
Thank you again for your prayers.

Sounds like you are doing great! I chose the epidural rather than the morpine pump--I knew I would not be able to think on it. I did have a few bizarre dreams/hallucinations on the epidural, but nothing like the morphine would have done. I'm down to 2 pain pills today--maybe try to make it through tomorrow with only one. I really hate them, but it beats not feeling like walking.
Don't feel bad about the weight gain. I did not gain or lose and Virginia gained one lb. I guess it is normal. If we keep doing right things we will see the results. I'm getting the water in fine, but having trouble getting enough protein. (80 oz fluid/ 43 gms protein). I tried chicken soup which did not set well for lunch, so I guess I missed a protein opportunity there--only ate an ounce.
My nurses were also overworked. The night shift had a little more time than the day shift. I tried not to be needy, so I hardly saw some of them in the daytime!
Thanks for reporting back! Glad you are OK and hope that you will be soon free of the druggies and pain...
