The hardest part to me

The hardest part of this whole surgical journey to me is the seven days of a full liquid diet with protein shakes, then two days of clear liquids. I also have to give myself a shot of Lovinox 12 hrs. prior to surgery. (It's to prevent blood clots). I am in day 4 of the full liquid diet, and I'm hungry! The shakes gag me a bit, and the water, sugar free popsicles, crystal light and diet snapple just aren't doin' it for me. At least I know that after the surgery, I won't be this hungry. 5 days and a wake-up...getting closer and closer to the big day! Hugs, By the way...can I have a nickname? Karen Losano

I'm about to feel your pain in a big way - only I have to do it for 2 full weeks! Can you have chicken broth? I think that might break up the monotony of cold&sweet. I have to start mine on Monday for surgery on the 22nd. Ouch! Linda - the Resident Witch.

Two weeks? Wow, that's tough. I can have chicken broth, and that does help a little. In fact, I think I'll have some right now! Karen

WOW! You have to give YOURSELF Lovenox? I'm getting something but they're putting it in at the hospital. More power to you! I couldn't give myself a shot. It's pretty funny, I was woozy with the IV for my endoscopy - but here I am, about to have actual surgery.. I guess the difference is that I won't have to watch. Good luck Karen.

Well, my Mom is diabetic and I'm seen her give herself a shot a million times, so I think if she can do it, so can I. Karen

Lucky me I don't have to give myself a shot. I have given them but to other people. I would make a terrible diabetic, I can't stand to poke myself and it would take a few hours to do the sugar level, if I even got that far! Have you tried drinking things like tea? My doc told me that drinking warm or hot liquids acually gives you a sense of being full, you just gotta keep at it though. So if you can't hang or don't have things like broth and tea give warm water (plain) a shot... the worst it could do is make ya gotta go! Gayle Queen of Yarn Balls March 22nd

I guess I could get some decaf tea, my Dr. told me no caffeine. I'll try to drink more hot liquids, though. Thanks for the tip. Hugs, Karen L March 11

I am so glad I do not need to do a liquid diet before surgery, I would not last. You want a name, tell us something you like, favorite things and maybe we can all come up with one. Sugarplum

Decaf tea is my favorite. It is good hot or cold.

How bout herbal tea with sweetener?? Can you have strained soups -- that might help with diversity. Whitney
