Gall Bladder
Had dinner with some friends last night and was talking about the surgery and one of them said something that didn't seem right to me....
She said that after having your gall bladder removed you cannot process any food with fat in it.. that it will make you sick. She had some training as a nurse, so I don't just discount what she says out of hand - but I know someone who had their gall bladder out and had little to no effect at all on what she could eat.
Any insight?

The gall bladder does not make the enzymes which digest fat--it just stores them. They are made in the liver. I had mine out almost 30 years ago. There was a short period of time when I got indigestion over certain fatty foods, but once my body got the hang of producing it when required instead of storing it, there was nothing that bothered me. I had gall stones which hurt really bad--so to me it was GOOD RIDDANCE!

Hi Linda,
I have never heard that either. I know someone who had their gall bladder out a couple of years ago and for a while some things just didn't sit well with them, but I don't remember hearing anything about fat.
My gall bladder is coming out with this surgery, just to get it out so there isn't a need to have to go back for it at another time.

SORRY CHARLIES! Tis a fact! I had my gallbladder out in early '92 and have lived with 'the runs' ever since! I can eat a low low fat diet and things work o****il I get 'plugged up' then I hit the cheese and french fries... works like a charm and works EVERY time. My sister had the same problem but then there are others who don't have any problem. I was told that with this surgery I won't have that problem so much for several reasons, the two chief ones being that I will have to eat lower fat foods and that there will be less food to pass through. Just my 2 cents... it seems to be different for almost everyone. I realize that this may have been a little TMI but I figger honesty is what is needed not illusions.
