Honeys, I'm home!!!
All went well--better than I expected. I had an epidural post-op for pain control and it was a God send. Today was my worst day because they weaned me off of it, but even that was not too bad. Drinking is fine. Ice tastes the best right now. Had some potato soup that was awesome for lunch. Anyway, THIS CANARY IS SINGING!!! I hope our other first weekers did as well. Thanks for all the caring messages. Thanks especially to my angel Betty! It is really happening for us!!! Nothing to be afraid of...
Joy "Canary"
Joy,
glad to hear you are doing so well. I too am a March 1ster and have been amazed at how well things have gone. I am having the hardest time getting in all they want as I am not in the least bit hungry or thirsty but am pushing myself for my own good. I had very little pain at all from the time I woke, much less than I ever expected. Makes me wonder what I worried about at all. I did use your "Now I lay me Down to sleep" prayer as I was being put to sleep. that was an excellent suggestion, I was very calm and that really helped. Best wishes for great "losing" days ahead!!!!! Janelle
I had open rny AND an open hysterectomy. They left the epidural in until today, but turned it down 1/2 strength yesterday. About an hour after they turned it off this morning I expereinced my first real pain and asked for a pain pill. That solved it. Walking was much easier with the epidural--I could stand up straight from the beginning--but not today! The most annoying thing I had to put up with was hot flashes from the hysterectomy. I got soaked in sweat and then shivered--Ouch! All in all, not nearly as bad as I expected. I was glad I took my red baseball hat to walk in. Everyone had a smile and a wave.

I had my hysterectomy in 1981 but I was in the hospital 8 days! I guess insurance companies didn't care then....I remember being well enough to play cards with my friends...ah those days are gone forever.
But I have a high pain threshhold and still the pain was sooo bad the first day after the hysterectomy, so sounds like the epidural is a great way to combat that...if you ever read the description of what they do in a hysterectomy you will understand why....there is one point of extreme pressure and I even know of a woman who's pelvis was fractured during the operation! Glad yours is over and you did so well...I will be in 3 days for my "mini open" she calls it...only about a 3-4 in*****ision. Actual term if anyone likes the medical names was mini laparotomy gastric bypass long limb roux-n-y on my order sheet for tests.
It will be nice when we hit April and we are all on the other side!
