Does everyone know before their surgery what they are scheduled for. I want to have lap RNY but Im not sure what he is performing on me. Renee

Renee, I would think that would have been something they discussed with you. I started out wanting lap, but neither surgeon that I consulted with does lap at all. And after a lot more research, I decided that I would rather have open anway. And, keep in mind that even if you are scheduled for lap, they have you sign a consent for open, just in case they determine once they start that they cannot do it lap. Well, sometimes the doc takes it for granted that you'll 'know'. If you have that super power please pass it on! One major clue is have you had more than one abdominal surgery? Docs don't like to do LAP if there's a lot of scar tissue. I do know that much. I've had 4 c-sections and my gallbladder out so I 'get' to have open. Also different doctors prefer different methods, if it was me I'd call up and ask. Can't hurt, right? Gayle Queen of Yarn Balls March 22nd.

I am familiar with your doctor and he does lap. My doctor only does open RNY's.
