Surgery is coming up fast! I am freaking out now!!!!!
My surgery date is March 22nd and today I began to actually freak out for the first time. My anxiety level is high. Am I the only one going through this? I am worried about my protein and how to remember what I am supposed to do 15 minutes before I eat, or 2-3 hours between meals and how many shakes make up my daily intake. When is my hair going to fall out, will I need a hat? Ok see, I told you I was freaking out. Help....please...

We are surgery sisters! The only thing you're doing that I'm not is that you waited this long to do this!!!! I have been alternating between elation and tears and then tears WITH elation! I just posted about protein, watch that thread and it might help..... have some of the same questions so I'll be watching your thread! We getta share that way!

Hi LeAnne!
You are NOT the only one freaking out, I promise!!! I keep telling myself to not worry about the after surgery until it gets here. First things first. The surgery, then the after. I have also tried to make a note to myself (in my head) to not worry about all the stages of the diet after (clear liquids, full liquids etc.). I am going to worry about it one day at a time. I also know that I have posed this same question to my support group locally that I go to and they keep telling me "Carrie, don't worry about it, you will figure it out and before you know it will be like second nature to you and you won't even have to think about it".
About the hair falling out, if it's going to I'm told it will be in the first 6 months. Another thing they tell me is that it doesn't fall out like bald kind of falling out but more like thinner. Which, if you have thick hair like I do, no problem (maybe even a good thing ) However, if you already have thin hair, might not be so great. But everybody who has lost some hair has said it's no big deal really and it all comes back. The other thing I have heard and read is to increase your protein before your surgery, even if Dr. doesn't tell you to do that. They think the hair loss is because of losing weight so fast that your protein levels go down. I have read that if you build up your protein before surgery that it lessens the hair loss after surgery. So, something you might consider. Once I had a date I started drinking protein drinks a couple of times a day just for that reason.
Anyway, it's okay to freak out and you are not alone. Come and give it to us and we will give you hugs and support. The Marchers are here for you!!!!
