I MADE it! So far so good!
Whew! Well, here I am, after having surgery scheduled through our previous insurance co. only to find out that we had to switch ins. carriers before my surgery date! YIKES! I've been praying about all this, and it must be God's will that I get this surgery done, because it didn't even take a week for our new insurance co. to approve me! I've been wavering back and forth on whether or not to have the surgery, but I'm perfectly at peace now. You see, I've questioned if NOW was the right time, as I don't have the other ailments/diseases that many obese patients present with. No diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and my heart cath came out fine. I DO have heart disease in my family, however, and it killed my father when he was only 56. I had my primary care physician ask me why I want to do something 'so drastic', along with a couple other medical professionals, and numerous friends/family members. They said, "Sure, you're obese, but not THAT bad!" Oh, yeah....RIGHT! Let's see how THEY feel to walk around with over 100 extra pounds! I guess most had/have the same reservations I had, in that do I really NEED to do this NOW? Well, I have left it all up to God, and here I sit, with a surgery date of March 30th, and perfectly at peace with myself and my decision. I do request prayers, though, as I can never have too many said for the success of my surgery (right?!), and also that my family is able to deal with all the upcoming changes we'll ALL be going through. Thanks for reading this, and would enjoy hearing from anyone out there in GASTRIC BYPASS LAND! OH, btw...I'm having mine done lap. I've heard it's pretty painful....any comments and/or advice? Thanks, again! ---Cindy
Hey Lori!
Great to hear from you, and keep those prayers coming! How are YOU feeling as the time draws closer to our surgery dates? I've heard the most painful thing about getting the surgery done Lap, is when the gas tries to get out of the body. It can pick the ouchiest places to go!
Oklahoma is OK in my book! Sorry, couldn't resist! I have relatives in Ok!
Thanks for taking the time to write...I REALLY appreciate it! Keep in touch!

Congrats, Cindy! And welcome to The Marchers!
I've heard that ANY kind of WLS is painful. Hey, think about it...your guts are being re-plumbed! It's GONNA hurt! But don't dwell on that part...just remember "No pain, no loss" ('cuz we're not gonna 'gain')

Hi Cindy! Welcome to the Marchers!!!
I have had two open surgeries and 3 lap surgeries. I would rather have a lap surgery any day. The most painful part about the lap surgery is that they fill your abdomen with a gas to inflate it so that they can have room to see and work. That gas doesn't all leave your abdomen before you are stitched up so your body has to absorb it and get rid of it. This may sound gross, but don't worry about letting out gas because that is the best way to get rid of it. If you try to hold it in out of embarassement it just has to find another way out and it will be more painful. A lot of times you will have pain in your shoulders because the gas travels up but the pain meds will help with that and the more you walk the quicker you will get rid of all the gas. You will do fine!!! You have many praying for you here in Newpouch!!!
God Bless!!!
