My surgery is 23 March. Next week is when I do all my tests. The date is getting closer and I have soo much that is going through my mind. I just pray that I will fly through all my tests. I have managed to stay healthy before my surgery. I had a couple close calls though. I have soo many what happens if going through my mind right now. The one test I have not been asked to do is the sleep test. Can you request to do it, even if your doctor doesnt ask for it?I am having trouble breathing while sleeping. I do have asthma but I saw the dr last week and he said it was fine.For those of you who have asthma, can they still do the surgery if you are wheezing?

Hi Sharon, Yes, you should be able to request a referral to a pulmonologist either through your surgeon or your PCP. I requested mine a couple of years ago because my husband was complaining of my snoring. I ended up with a CPAP and it has helped me to sleep better. Iwill be so happy to get rid of it though when I get some weight off. I would start with your PCP for that if your surgeon doesn't require it. I think they can still do your surgery if you have asthma and are wheezing. I have asthma and they told me that was the one medication I could and should use if I needed it the day of surgery, my inhaler. They will likely give you breathing treatments in the hospital and they can give you one prior to surgery if you need it.
