I still have to compile my list. I keep saying I'm going to get it done every day and forget every day! I know there are a few things that will be handy - one of which being the infamous toilet paper tongs. I will have to bring something like that with me. Since I'm going to be gone from home longer than most, and going open so I'll be in the hospital longer, I am taking things I know some of you may not need. For one, I cannot live without my tweezers! Once I lose this weight I hope those chinnie *****hin hairs go away, but I have little hope of that happening. Electrolysis it is then - but until then, I shall be one with my tweezers. Other things - A firm pillow to cough into and/or my comfy sleeping pillow Lots of nightgowns and robes/slippers. Tank tops/t-shirts to wear under the binder I will have laptop/camera lip gloss/lip balm. I won't get to drin****il I'm released so I will need to keep moist. glycerin pops to wet my mouth - because I won't be able to drink anything again. Most hospitals have these, but Dr. Aguirre apparently doesn't have them. I'm bringing those flushable toilet wipes. I think those will be invaluable. I know I have a lot more to add, but like I said - I get scatterd thinking about it... Dina

Sometimes you can't get a robe on because of the IVs so I was trying to think of something last night to do so I could wear one of my pretty caftans...after talking with my 90 year old Mom last night who was also a good sewer....we came on this idea? Slit open the straight seam at each shoulder....use iron on tape to bind it shut nicely, and then attach pretty ribbons to close them! I was very proud of myself...If I am go walking the halls I want to look nice... I also went to TJ Maxx's and bought some Tommy Hilfiger slip on shoes with lots of support for my slippers....I have bunions at the base of both my big toes (not the sides) from toe dancing as a kid and need my feet to be comfy and supported...I can't wear floppy type slippers. Other than that, my makeup, my lotions, my wipies, my magazines, lip stuff, pen and crossword puzzles and I am set. I may bring 1 nightgown....and devise the same shoulder thing, but I don't know why you need alot of them for 3 days....I left the hospital gowns on the last time I was in the hospital and my own never left the suitcase.

If you go to my surgery page and look for a post by Sharon Neva she has a list of what you need while in the hospital and what you need at home when you get home from the hospital. Check that out.

They told me not to bother with a nightie. I have a friend who told me unless my period starts not to bother with panties either. I'm having open and they will cut right across my incision. I have my wedding outfit (couldn't find a white gown that was 'cheap' enough in my size) that my hubby would like to see me wear again. It's a skirt and blouse combo. I'm wearing that on the way in. I have these big jammies that are like the blanket sleepers that kids wear (without the feeties) and figure I'll wear them home since they zip right up the front and therefore won't really touch my tummy. I have my beloved Eeyore slippers and then just my regular toiletries. My friend recommended an electric tooth brush since pretty much all you do is slide it around, no jerky motions therefore less pain. My BO Eliminator and my brush. Can't forget my yarn balls and a hook.... keep my hands busy and my mind occupied! Gayle Queen of Yarn Balls Resident B**** March 22nd

I have to ask - what's up with the tongs? I must be missing something - so please fill me in!! I just stocked up on stuff at Super Target (I LOVE that place!). I'm taking to the hosiptal: pj's (just in case I want to look cute) undies toiletries Burt's Bees lip balm (LOVE the stuff!) pillow from home linen spray (because I want my pillow/sheets to smell like home & I hate that icky hospital smell!) CD player and CDs - maybe I'll buy a book on CD to pass the time! a couple of trashy magazines - Cosmo or Glamour deck of cards (never leave home without them!) pictures of my kids and hubby camera (?) For coming home, I've already got: Carnation instant breakfast SF chicken broth instant oatmeal instant mashed potatoes shot glasses! I still want/need to get SF jello and some SF popsicles and skim milk, but that's for later.... -W-

A back scratcher is a good idea to take with you. I'm taking mine.
