OK, Marchers, My pre-op is March 4th and My operation is March 8th. I have the following questions for the Bored of Marchers: 1. Shouldn't I stop taking asperin (where is the spel cheker?),ibuprophen, and like stuff now before that pre-op so I can be operated on? 2. What about glucovance (sp-5pts.) (I've been a diabetic for at least 3 weels now.), lipitor, manageisum, depression and anxiety meds?(Yes, I will as my PCP, but what were you told?) 3. What do they do to you at pre-op? I've had all my tests and I have solved all the problems that presented themselves, by myself. So what is left? Somebody asked before and never did get an answer. 4. A lot of you are on liquid diets? Water was said to be important. Do you have any other recommended practices? Thanks. Just biting my figernails while trying to keep my chins(literally) up. Jewell

1.Yes Jewell they tell you to stop taking asaprin a week before surgery. But ask your doctor to make sure. 2.my surgon told me not take any diabetic meds the morning of surgery, I'm not diabetic tho, she told us our blood sugar would be monitored and if needs meds or insulin would be given then. 3.For my pre-ops I had a urine test, blood gases, pulmonary function, chest x-ray, ekg and artial blood gas. This was all i had to do, plus get clearance from my heart doctor since I have chf and other heart problems. 5.Sip and walk is all I'm told, the most important 2 things I hope this has helped. Email me if you need anything else.

1. My doctor said 10 days prev. stop aspirin and NSAIDS. You can take Tylenol. 2. I took depression meds up until today (clear liquids today for me-1 day preop) 3. I got EKG, chest xray, blood tests for nutritional deficits. Yours may vary. 4. Drink LOTS the day before surgery no matter what your doc puts you on. It will make it SO much easier to start an IV if you are hydrated and you will not be nearly as thirsty post op. Preop diets vary between docs. I had regular diet through last nite, clear liquids today, nothing by mouth after midnite. (Sure am hungry now!!!!) Joy (3/1)

I have pre-admission testing tomorrow for surgery 3/8. My dr. wants me off aspirin for a week along with Celebrex and Horse Chestnut (for pain in my legs). I have not been told to change my diet any but I plan on going "light" 2 days before and loads of water. The day of surgery I was told only blood pressure meds, no other meds. My antidepression meds and anxiety meds will also stop the day before. I figure I will be "out" much of the day and won't miss them. Insulin before bed the night before but nothing that day. Even water was to be very limited that day. Good luck. We share the same day!!
