Should I ask?

Well next Thursday is the big day. Since I am flying over 1,000 miles to have this surgery. I was wondering if you think it is a normal request to have my husband stay with me for the first night. I am having a private room I wonder if they have cots. Even two of those big comfy chairs put together. I am really worried that by having a private room the nurses will forget about me. I think I am just worried in general. I am so glad the waiting game is almost over. Can't wait to get back here and tell everyone things are great and I am on the OTHER SIDE!!!! Chief Nutkin ( Karen)

Good Luck Karen! I'm a Karen, too. I hope you're not flying home too soon after surgery. My physician told me not to fly for at least two weeks after surgery. He told me the stomach will expand...wouldn't want any complications. I'm saying a prayer for you Karen Ktwinkle

Hi Angelette I asked my surgeon if DH could stay with me, he said he had no problem with that. I just feel that I will be more comfortable with someone else with me in the room during those first hours after surgery then throughout the night. Something like a security blankey Love ya and praying real hard for you. Betty

Karen, I am pretty sure if you are in a private room that your hubby can stay with you. I know that when Mr Mo asked Dr S about hotels close to the hospital Dr S told him that if I was in a private room he would be able to stay with me. And I can't wait for you to be back either !!! When I asked I got a big fat NO! My hubby is my rock and frankly I don't sleep well if he falls asleep on the couch and it's just down the hall so I can imagine I won't be sleeping all that hot there. Of course I could be drugged out of my ever lovin' mind and sleep like a log, who knows? Gayle Queen of Yarn Balls Resident B**** March 22nd

The book I got from the hospital encourages for you to have someone with you. To make sure your needs are met. Sometimes there is just not enough nursing staff anymore to come to you when you need them now. I have a GF that is planning on staying with me in my room at my request. She is a licensed nurse from another state. Others that have been to the same hospital and same Dr have had family stay with them in private rooms of course. If for some reason I am in ICU and she cannot stay there, I am making plans with a local motel for her.

HI Karen!!!! I would suggest calling the facility where you're having the surgery and asking their policy on this. My hospital said it was fine in a private room and there would be a recliner that turns into a bed in there for him to use. I wouldn't worry that the nurses will forget about you but most places are overworked and understaffed.. so having some help can only benefit you. Best of Luck.. almost there!!!!!
