i don't know... everything i read and everyone that i talked to said that this filter is no big deal. well, i beg to differ... it sucked! they didn't give me any anesthesia - just some valium - but i was awake for the entire thing, and it HURT! they gave me morphine in recovery, which made me sick and i ended up puking all over myself in the car on the 2 hour ride home. quite fun. and, i was well prepared for some "soreness" in my neck, but was quite surprised to find that my lower right side of my stomach hurt like hell.
i had some serious doubts about all of this within the past couple of days. i mean, if this was supposed to be "a piece of cake" and i could barely handle it, how the hell am i going to make it through the surgery? i don't know... perhaps i will feel differently once i am out of my vicodin haze.
in the meantime, i'm going back to bed.
Kym, I am sorry this was tough for you. You said something about the Morphine making you sick, you may want to tell your doc that. Chances are that after surgery they will give you a morphine drip. Maybe they can give you something else. I am glad you are done with that... I know you are!

Kym I am so sorry you had such a bad experience with this filter insertion.
I was wide awake for the whole thing and didn't feel anything. I was talking to them the whole time..
I had a small dose of morphine and went home with a sore neck. I didn't mislead you intentionally and from now on I will be more cautious in advising someone on a procedure.
We used the same Dr and same Hospital so I am surprised our experiences were so different.
You may want to talk to the surgeon before your WLS so he can be aware and possibly avoid any more unpleasantness...
Hope you get to feeling better soon.....
Kathy
Kym,
We missed you!!! I'm so sorry to hear that the filter procedure was so awful for you. Make sure you tell your surgeon abou the Morphine making you sick. That can be very important after the WLS, and there are other things they can give you if they know.
I hope you feel much better after your nap...keep us informed.
Happy thoughts,

Cheez, Kym...
I'm really sorry to hear this. Like I told you, that thing creeped me out right off the bat, but I didn't realize it would be that painful. I just thought it was icky, not hurtful. I don't understand why you weren't put out: what was there a purpose for that? (I don't understand that part.)
MAYBE (I don't know...) it'll feel better after awhile - ? I know that when I wake up from having tooth extractions (yes, I am knocked out for them...if I can avoid pain, I do), and the anesthesia wears off, I'm like, "OMG...this FRICKIN' hurts!!" (keep in mind I feel pain 6-12 times more intense than most people 'cuz of my fibromyalgia). Pain meds do nothing for me, so that doesn't help either. But then the next day, it starts easing up, and I realize it was just the immediate aftermath kickin' in and I calm down and I'm alright.
I'm prayin' for ya. No one said this was easy, but you'll be glad a month or so down the road...hang in there, Kym. We're here for ya...

Kym -
I can't believe they only gave you a pill while they placed the mesh! Holy cow - I would think that WOULD be painful with only that.
If you have your doubts about following through, consider this: You know that they will have you completely under during the surgery, so you won't be having to deal with that pain while they are fiddling with your insides. You now know that morphine bites beetle dung, so you can ask for Demerol in the future and have them at the ready with phenergan for nausea.
It may be something that deters you now, but maybe it is something that just gave you the chance to have a heads up about a couple things before you go in.
Keep us posted on how you are doing...
