FIRST WEEKERS - First Week Diet
First Weekers,
I have read many profile reports of people trying foods that they were not supposed to be eating the first week. Here's why we aren't going to be doing that:
Your new pouch has a fresh seam down one side and a new connection to your intestines. When you eat solids the stomach contracts as a part of the digestion process. This muscle action could easily tear loose one of these new seams and cause a leak. This is why your doctor tells you to stay on liquids or soft foods for the first week or so. Just because you try a taco and it does not make you nauseated, does not mean that it does not damage you!
Know that we will not be physically hungry the first week. This does not mean that our heads and mouths will not think they are hungry. This is our chance to begin recognizing "head hunger" and diferenciating it from "stomach hunger". Everyone stay strong--we don't need to cause our own complications! Instead: Drink Drink Drink. Walk Walk Walk.

Joy,
Great tip!
Maybe you could put together a more comprehensive little diddy on the care and handling or our little "pouchling".
Thanks!!
Happy thoughts,

A friend of mine who had WLS surgery 2 years ago says that once she was allowed solids (week 3 I believe) she ate with an egg next to her plate for 3 months. Staring at the food on her plate and staring at the egg as she ate remembering that her new pouch was about the same size as the egg so anything that would not fit into that egg should not go into her pouch.
She is still doing fabulous.
