What should I take?

I must have missed some posts. Could someone please tell me if there is a list floating around with the shoulds and should nots of stuff to take to the hospital. I'm wondering if I really need to take many night gowns? With the IV's and such their gowns might be better. Any thoughts on this? Anyone know if showers are permitted in the first few days? Dr's and hospitals are all so varied.. I have seen what patients from Harper in Detroit have said.... Use the hopsital gowns and no showers.. they let you "clean up" One lady was there a few extra days and used the big shower in the hallway as the ones in the patients room aren't big enough.. Most ppl feel they over pack so I would say less is more. Bring your own toiletries... moist wipes and a wooden spoon, chapstick, lotion etc. You will have a binder on (depending) and several tubes, drains and iv lines. Also bring pads.. I have heard this surgery brings on your period. Hope this helps.. I know Joy has a very thorough and comprehensive list on here somewhere.... WOW!!!! Plannin on what to pack.. can't just smell it???? (surgery that is )

Oh great..your period Kathy? As if I have not had enough of that the last 2 weeks!! Anyways..the hospital gowns are fine however you may consider bringing a robe because you will probably do some walking. Also bring some chap stick for your lips they may be dry and I hear chloraseptic spray helps for the dry throat the day of surgery. Good Luck! If this surgery brings on MY period I will make the guiness Book of world records or something and be famous! LOL I had a hysterectomy 24 years ago and I am 63! Reminds me of when I went to the hospital for a pre-op test in 2002 when I was 61, and the girl read my chart and said she didn't see that particular test listed, but that they had a pregnancy test scheduled....LOL we all broke out laughing.

I crochet a lot so I plan on taking a few balls of yarn and a hook or two along with my comfy clothes and toiletries. I will wear my wedding outfit (denim blouse and skirt) to the hospital with slip on shoes and them I'll wear my jammies home. My period should just be over when my day arrives so that won't be a consideration (whew!) so just my tooth brush and a hair brush and that finishes it. Seems I'll have more yarn than anything else! Oh and I can't forget my Hubby! Gayle In need of an March 22nd

I'm taking a gown, but don't really plan to use it. Most of us will have the IV until almost time to go home. Trick for walking in their lovely gowns: Put on 2 gown, one front wise and one back wise. Then you wont be flashing anyone. The advantage of their gowns is that they snap on the shoulder so you don't have to thread the IV through it. Take either slippers or slipper socks (the kind with non-skid soles). Take toiletries. Take chapstick. I'm taking girl scout cookies (yes, really!) for the nurses -- hope they come to check on me often! Take a list of people to contact with their phone numbers. Joy (3/1)

I am taking either my Nikes or my best comfortable wedge shoes with rubber bottoms...if they want me to walk, then I want my feet supported. Slipper socks don't do it for me. I also have a caftan with really big arm openings that I got over the IV once before. If the nurse just unhooks it for a minute you can get it on and then she reconnects you...I like to look as nice as I can. I am just bringing my makeup, toiletries and some crossword puzzles and magazines...doubt if I will do much with them though. My lips and mouth are always super super dry when i come out of the anesthetic so I am going to have something for that and ask for swabs dipped in ice water like last time I had surgery in 2002. I never thought about what to wear home...I hate leaving in a nightgown, have to think of something.

Yeah, I need to look at a coming home outfit. I guess I will wear my big sweatpants so that they will not be tight around the tummy. I hate to go home in my nighty. Bethany AKA Da Offishal Riddler 5 Days till NewPouch A riddle a day will keep the Marchers pouds AWAY!
