Can I take my lap top to the hospital?
Anyone been allowed or asked? I can hook up to the internet through my cell phone. I know that cells aren't allowed in the hospital but since this is going to be my 5th abdominal surgery I hope to be on the run out the doors and down the halls the first day. (I did that with my last c-section) I could hook up for some dial up catch up at an outside table or something....
Hiya, Gayle!
We discussed this before and no one knew. I suggested that everyone call their individual hospitals (anonymously) and find out. Someone suggested hooking IN to a dial up phone (e.g. your bedside phone) to get around the wireless modem or cell phone usage. Who knows...they may even have a docking bay you can use - ?
I personally hate laptops. Have one at work and it's been locked in a drawer for 5 years now...never wanted it, never used it, told 'em that's what would happen to it. But I know some SWEAR by 'em, so I say "go for it!", but make sure you won't be responsible for possibly having someone on a monitor or something crash 'cuz the laptop's frequency is interfering with electronic machinery.
All ya can do is ask...we never DID get an answer on that one. If ya do call and ask, couldja post the result so the rest will know? They'd probably appreciate it muchly!

I don't know if my cell has internet or not but what I did is add a dial up number to my dsl account. I have Verizon for 2 cells, home, dsl and now dial up. I got a patch cord from the Verizon store (VERY 'SPENSIVE But I got mine for like half price [$49]) and then I just had Verizon add a dial up to my account. It costs an additional $8.99 a month and I only get 20 hours but if I combine it with my free nights and weekends then I get by pretty good. I will call my hospital and find out and then post back.
I use my cell phone with my laptop .. on the free nights & weekends time, but I plan to be using the phone in the room for a regular dial up connection. I don't want to take a chance with the cell phone and cause a problem.
My doc said if I am in a private room I could probably get away with it, but I am not taking that chance!!!
I would say check it out.
