How long is everyone taking off of work??
I've blocked out 3 weeks to take off, but am hoping to work 1/2 days 3 of the days of that 3rd week, and possibly only work half days the week that I go back depending on how I feel. I know I went back after 6 weeks with my hysterectomy and that was too soon for full time.

My surgeon said that I'd be out 2-4 for lap. If I take more than 4, even by one day, then I started getting cuts in benefits and overall vacation time. It's a really stupid policy considering I've been there almost 20 years and could get 26 weeks full pay short term disability if it was warrented. Anyway, my doc is putting down 4 weeks and told me if I feel better sooner, I can go back sooner. I told my boss I might work from home that last week if I'm feeling well enough, but I'm planning on all 4 weeks off!
A coworker had the surgery lap about two years ago and she was only out for 2 wks (desk job) and I'm going to shoot for 2 wks too.. The only thing she said that bothered her when she came back was driving.. I'm a little concerned because my commute is 4 times what hers was back then (45 miles each way). So I'm acknowledging that it might take an extra day or maybe two.
Either way I have to take a business trip 20 days after surgery from Newark NJ to Dallas TX to New Orleans and back so I'm crossing my fingers that I'll have a smooth procedure and good recovery. I'm trying to do what I can now, boosting vitamins, protein, and excercise.

ps - my roommate from college had the surgery lap and she was out for five weeks but she had complications during her procedure and she is a nurse, so she needed to be able to lift PEOPLE when she went back.
Sally,
Are you having open or lap??? That will make some difference in being able to return. 6 weeks is standard for any open abdominal surgery. I used to be a nurse in an OB/GYN office and we always recommended six weeks off following a hysterectomy, c-section, and other types of abdominal surgeries. You need time to heal internally. I on the other hand, am a stay at home mom, so I don't know how long I'll be able to be out of commission -- things don't run smoothly when mom isn't able to take care of them. I'm only planning on taking a week off from church -- I work Sunday and Wednesday's.
