WOW!!!! That is short notice!!!! I know you must be excited! Congratulations! You will have to catch up quick!!! My surgery is Monday also! I guess that makes us twins! Here is a summary for the short course... On this board 3/1 surgeries are called canaries (don't ask--you don't have time!) You are also a first weeker. As such you have the responsibility of reporting back to those having surgery later how you are doing as soon as you can. OK? This week, you should be following your doctor's instructions to the letter, getting in as much protein as possible (to help minimize hair loss), taking a good multi vitamin, avoiding extra vitamin E and NSAIDS, and drinking LOTS of decaf fluids, especially on Saturday and Sunday. If you are a smoker, caffeine addict or sugar addict, get these out of your system now--you don't want withdrawal symptoms along with surgery recovery. Have an assortment of the following on hand for post-op: protein powders (look for high protein and low fat and low carb) skim or 1% milk decaf tea SF tang SF crystal lite decaf coffee broth SF jello SF pudding SF popcycles Chewable vitamins The challenge will be getting enough fluids and proteins the first few weeks. Take with you to the hospital: robe, slippers or slipper socks, pillow to hug for coughing and to hold riding home, phone numbers to call Please, Marchers add to this summary--there is no way she has time to read this whole board!!!! If you have questions, jump in and ask--we have kicked a lot of things around here. Others are new too--just not on quite as quick a schedule. At last count there were over 50 of us posting here who are FIRST WEEKERS. Wow! Again, welcome--sorry to toss so much at you. You probably knew most or all of this, but maybe you can pick up one or 2 new ideas. Your sis Joy "Chief Canary in Charge" (3/1)
