I almost gave up

Kym... I think you're missing an important point: don't you realize that YOU can be a part of it too? That we WANT you to be a part of it? Do you think we'd've been actively trying to straighten this out if we didn't WANT you here? Why would we expend that much time on it? Everyone that WANTS a "title" can have one...just think one up and it's a done deal! We'd love nothing more than for you to figure out what/how you'd like to contribute, and claim that "title". But...'titles' are NOT what's made this group of people successful: it's the care and concern that everyone shares that makes it our 'home'. It's your contributions that make you a part of this group, and that has nothing to do with a title! You don't HAVE to have a ficticious title...most don't, most won't, and most of those who wanted one made up their own! We want EVERYONE to be a part of this dance, but we're not going to drag them yelling and screaming in to it! (We're better at kidnapping and bribing... ) YOU are the only one who can say "Alright...I've had enough. I want to be a part of this!" and then BECOME a part of it (which, by the way, you may not realize, but you've already become a part!). You're not shy - that's obvious, and we LOVE that! But you can't be a part of it by sitting on the sidelines and watching and then being bummed when nothing is coming your way...you have to (as my Angel would say) "throw down the pom poms and get into the game". If there are "others" out there on the sidelines, how are we supposed to know if they don't make their presence known? There are over 160 REGISTERED (thru Va) Marchers here now at last count...they all jumped in and are "playing" to the degree they want to. It's everyone's personal choice. It's not a title, it's your personal participation. I'm really sorry for being so 'stern' earlier (it gives me a headache being stern...), but this has been a great thing for most people here. We're here for you...we're here for everyone...we'd be there for all those on the sidelines if we knew they were there, but until they step in and make their presence known and POST, there's nothing we can do to make them feel a part of it. That's the bottom line. We're ALL inviting you to come and interact with us, just as we've invited everyone who's ever posted even ONE TIME has been invited to do so. I'm personally asking you to start posting your questions and concerns, and then wait and watch what happens. Kimmer

Kimmer I just love your passion!!!!! You are a great leader to us all here in Newpouch. I love the personal touch we have given to our board. Giving it a name and all makes it feel more like a hometown or something than just an internet chat. I feel that I have gotten to know quite a few of you in my few weeks of posting. I have a hard time jumping in and getting to know people and you & all the other Marchers made me feel so welcome from the first day that I can't keep from this place (it's 4:00 am and I'm trying to play catch up here). I don't have a "title" and I don't feel put off about it. I teased about wanting one, but didn't really care or feel the need or I would have continued until someone gave me one. This is definately not a clique!!! Everyone treats everyone else with respect and love. Maybe we don't completely concentrate on "the facts" but there is pleanty of emotional support here and at this stage in our game, that is more of what we can offer to eachother -- We can save "the facts" for later when we have a little more experience to offer. I for one am hoping that we continue to be this active in the months following our surgeries and we can guide oneanother through the first year which will be the most difficult time. If we think the preop jitters are getting us, just wait for the postop adjustments that we will all go through. I'm sure there will be lots of hand holding then. Just the passion with which this post was answered should show others how much we care about our town and its citizens. If we didn't care, no one would have bothered to answer and would have just let this person fade away. What difference would it have made to us??? See, now you got my dander up. I don't think I've ever had such a long post (gonna check on that for me Kimmer?? ) :kisses: Whitney Angels: Lori and Va

Kym - and anyone else who is feeling intimidated by the board: I have been a member of this board for less than a week. It's always hard walking into a room of people and jumping in on a conversation. I never do. I'm outgoing and loud and boisterous, but when I walk into a room full of people, I suddenly become a wallflower. So it takes some gumption to go in and introduce yourself and try to catch the bus running. That's the way it is. It's not that everyone here is cliquish (that is kind of funny actually because that is what Kimmer has been on a crusade against since day 1). It's that you walked into a room full of people who had a couple weeks to chat it up and get loud and noisy. 90% or more of them started off on the same unsure foot as you and everyone else who is feeling intimidated. I think the thing to concentrate on here is that this is ONE HELL of a fun place to be. It is comic relief in the very best way and everyone is included in the fun if they want to be. Kimmer has done a great job as cheerleader encouraging us to never leave a post unresponded to and to ensure we welcome everyone. I think we've done a good job of that and I think it will continue as such. We do want you to be a part of the board - and anyone else who might just be lurking. But please remember, we've told you you're welcome. Please don't tell us we aren't welcoming. Speaking for myself, I can welcome you with open arms, but if you turn your back on me and contend that I have no use for you, you are creating your own world. Of all people in the world, you should realize a bunch of us women with a weight problem have experienced being left out of a crowd. Why would we want to perpetuate that? I certainly don't. I want to combat that which has been a source of discomfort to me. So the question is: Because you don't understand the inside humor, does that mean we should stop having fun and joking? Should we quit having fun because some folks might be intimidated into thinking they can't just join right in? If anyone reads past the first few jokes, they will realize the intent is to include, not exclude. And the humor really isn't "inside" humor - it's there for everyone to enjoy. But things move so fast sometimes that it's easy to get lost. Heck, I was off for 8 hours or so and lost my place so much that when I asked if I could be sheriff of Newpouch, I was told I was slow on the uptake and that sheriff wouldn't fit, that I would have to be the friendly dungeon master. I still have no clue what went on, but the fact that it's going on makes me come back here. I've got several boards I am on and this is by far the most fun. There are those that are not as into the joking and wild antics, and they are pretty dry. They hardly get any attention at all. The boards are dying. So all those folks out there looking for support are not finding it there either. The ones who won't come out and play here I wouldn't expect would do the same on a slow board. So at least we are trying to pull people out of lurking and get them involved. The thing is - what we are all embarking upon is life-changing and very scarey. We all understand each other's fears and we want to help quell those fears and keep the laughter in the forefront. That is the only agenda. That doesn't mean there is selective exclusion going on. It just means we are trying to keep each others spirits up. Sometimes it just takes a leap of faith to believe what people are saying is true. Sometimes it takes giving it a try and joining in the fray. Go ahead Kym - dub yourself something. I bet we all find somewhere to go with it! I didn't read the negative post I guess, but I was like Louise, and a little thrown by some of the "inside jokes" and strange humour at first....LOL BUT, I have been lurking on the main message boards first, then I found the "over 50" forum which is really cool for my age group, but unfortunately you are all just babes....lol But now that I have found my fellow "Marchers into surgery" I feel at home at last! I feel most comfortable here, and hope that we can all stay in touch throughout our next year which if nothing else will be EVENTFUL I am sure! Only disappointment? Some of you don't post pictures....boohoo and I like the "visual" (as I used to say to my internet dates....so I could see if they had 2 heads, big noses, bald heads or even what flavor they were...lol).

Hi Sally, AT 54 I checked out the over 50 board too. They seemed nice enough, but I like it here in Newpouch!!! It is a comfy place to call home. Hugs, Mo (doin' the 27 day boogie )

We aim to please, and this has been brought up to me several times (I think some just want to see if I wear a red round nose and stage paint). It dawned on me several years ago that I don't HAVE pictures of me 'cuz I'm always the one TAKING the pics! But I'm workin' on it...gonna try to find SOMETHING to get on here ASAP.
