ok - i'm not trying to be...

ok - i'm not trying to be mean or rude... but i'm a little bothered by a couple of things... i didn't even realize that there was a board for people having surgery during a specific month until a few days ago when i stumbled across it. and i thought, "wow! how great is that?! i can talk with other people going through what i am that are in the same place as me right now." there's a lot of great advice and support on the main board and i also go to the michigan board alot, so i thought this board would be similar. but... after several days of reading posts on this board, i have to say i'm a little upset that it's not what i had hoped it would be. i don't know... i mean, i'm all about having a good time and having fun, but i come here for support, understanding, and information. almost everything i've read on this board is about "newpouch, usa" and nominating "keepers of monkeys" and posts that are not even about anything in particular. i mean, everything is spelled wrong and typed out to read like it's written by someone who can't even speak proper english. i guess i just hoped for more from "the marchers", "the niners", and "der offishal keeper of der bored".

Hi Kym, Yes, we do have a lot of fun here and joke around alot. But when someone has a serious question or issue we are here to support each other. I'm a little surprised that "after several days of reading posts" that you haven't gotten that from us. There is nothing that says we have to be drab and boring to support each other. (Not that I'm saying that's how it is on the other board.) We just have our own style. But, even though we are joking and having fun, we are always serious about supporting each other. Carrie

Sorry Kym, We are quite capable of that, but for many of us who started this waiting game together many weeks ago, the biggest need has become the need for a distraction to help us pass the time. (To witness that, scroll back a couple of weeks if the posts are still there that far back) We are indeed very serious about this new life, and about the many changes that we are facing in the next few weeks. We are also in various states of nerves What in particular can we help you with? Please don't let our silliness stand in the way of getting whatever support you are in need of. Don't feel like an outsider--jump in and ask your questions or start a discussion of a topic that is interesting to you. I'm sure it will be interesting to many of us too. Thank you for reminding us of what we may appear like to newcomers. We need to be more sensitive to that. And, by the way, welcome!!! Joy (3/1)

Hey Kym, After reading your post I checked to see how many questions you have asked that have gone unanswered. I thought maybe we had screwed up royally and hadn't answered a query you had posted. You've posted one other time, other than this post. Your other post was your greeting post on Feb 20. How can you read this board for several days and think we don't support and care for one another? I myself have posted several messages concerning Angels for everyone and of course the "Surgery List" I post every day. Those posts are not trivial, at least in my mind. Just today we had a good discussion about fluid intake and how to manage that...I'm not saying we came to a definite conclusion, but we definitely knocked it around. I have visited the other "surgery date boards" around this board several months in both directions. Not a one of them is as caring to each other as this board. I literally have made friends here!! Grant it, Kimmer has lots of fun with language, and important information is not relayed in this manner. If it's for real, it's in actual English. Not Pidgeon. We have to laugh, tears are too close to the surface to take everything at face value. Our numbers here have almost reached the level that we will lose one of us this month. Statistics don't lie. So right now we laugh and enjoy one another, but make no mistake, this is deadly serious business. These are our lives...we are fighting...to stay alive...and together we are stronger. If you have a question...POST IT!!! This board is very, very busy. Some question that may be obvious to you that we should be discussing, have been discussed, several days ago. Ask any question...we will answer...I absolutely guarantee it. I'll do one better...I will make it my personal responsibility to answer it. If I don't know the answer, I'll find out from a reliable source. I promise. We want everyone to jump in, ask questions, reply to posts...honestly we do. The more the merrier. Have fun with us, cry with us, laugh with us, research a topic with us, if you need something we are here. i'm sorry - i guess i'm a little on edge and a little touchy. i'm having a really crappy day - -first of all, i started taking "hair, skin, & nail" vitamins thinking that they would help prepare for surgery - and, i'm having a reaction to having taken too much niacin (b3). so, i'm all itchy and scratchy and it's driving me nuts. -i'm supposed to go for my filter surgery on wednesday. -and, my grandmother died this afternoon. i wasn't close with her, but my dad is very upset and i'm concerned about his health and... i don't know, things are just a mess. i'm just really scared.

Kym sweetie, We are here for you!! First, drink lots of water, if you can take Benedryl you might try that for the itching. But the more water you drink the faster you'll flush that niacin out of your system. One of the side effects of b-3 is itching, irritating but common. Protein supplements will do your hair, skin and nails more good than the vitamins though. You need to be trying them anyway so you might as well start now. Just be there for your Dad, even though you weren't close, she was his Mom. Losing your Mom is always tough, whether your 20, 40, 60 or 80. Just knowing your there and will listen, will be a help to him now. Hang in there, remember we are here for you. The month before surgery, for us females, is like a 30 day pms! I hereby declare that we can all use that excuse. Heck, I'm in a generous mood--the guys can use it too! I am so sorry for your loss Kym. Don't worry about being snippy--Happens to all of us. Usually when we are troubled on another level. Its a blessing that some of us are up when others are down. We will get through this together. Tell you what, I'll go first, and let you know how it goes, OK? Joy "Canary" (3/1) (for a canary explanation read my post on 2/15)

Kym, I found a place that has pretty much the same stuff as Vitalady but a lot cheaper and a set shipping rate of 5.95 no matter how much you order it's sportsupplements.com. Have you tried Carribean cooler by Syntrax tastes like a Pina Colada or the Banana Scream Stack by Champion tastes just like a banana milk shake. Plus a lot of them are better fixed in a blender with a couple of cubes of ice and 1 teaspon of SF pudding. NO KIDDING!!! and it's allowed!!! Hope this helps!! and your itching has slowed!!!!
