So my surgery has been moved BACK a week, I am now scheduled for March 9th, can you say just slap me now!!! Besides that my Insurance denied me, they need the endoscope results and the psych eval results and they are saying some crap about "out of network provider" well all the surgeons in my "network" cant even see me for a initial consult until late july/early august. The people at the Liv-Lite center where i am going are positive that we will get approved and moved my surgery back a week so that they can fight it teeth and nail with the insurance. Besides that i was 1 week smoke free and all of this drama and stress has made me pick up a cigarette!!! I bought a pack 3 days ago and still have about 10 cigs left, but I feel so dirty like I failed myself ugghh!!!! ~Nicole Do I get the failure of the week award LOL

Hi, Nicole! You're now a NINER!! (March 9th surgery, so is mine!) Way cool! Listen to what your medical team tells you...they do this approval stuff endlessly and can probably tell you who will and who won't be approved faster than the insurance companies themselves. Don't sweat that part of it. Nah, we don't give "failure of the week" awards here in the Marchers. Yet, anyway (hey, we're always open for suggestions...). I quit smoking on Labor Day. Get to your PCP and have him write you a 'script for NICOTROL INHALERS. Goofy little things, look like a cross between a cigarette holder and a plastic tampon, but you put a little load of PURE NICOTINE in it, inhale it, and it releases a vapor of nicotine into your mouths, your buccal tissues (gums, etc) absorb it, and it takes the nicotine craving away. I'm sitting here right now with one hanging out of my mouth...think I changed the load about 3? 4? hours ago (loads are only good for 30 min. inhaling time), but it sort of acts like a pacifier for me. Don't sweat caving and smoking, but smoke what's left (or not), and then quit, and don't quit quitting. You can do it...I did after 29 yrs! Welcome to the Marchers. Hang around. We'll get your head aimed in the right direction, and will keep ya laughing while we do it! Nicole - What a raw load of dung....sorry it had to spill all over you. :weep: We know your insurance pays, so that is one thing to be happy about. So take a deep breath and dig in your heels. You'll get there and no matter what "date" they give you, you will always have us here. As for the smoking, I quit ONLY with giving it up to God (true story and too long to go into here right now but willing to share if anyone needs to hear it). However, one thing that He showed me was that quitting and picking up a cigarette is not a failure. I had heard it before, but because everyone kept pushing me, I would always just dive right back into it. But once I realized the whole meaning of that, I found I could keep on going. So I "cheated" as some people would say. But not bad and it kept me going. So what I did was when I wanted a cig, I would have an inner talk with myself and make a deal that I wouldn't have it now, but would have it at a later time if I wanted it. I usually would put it off no less than a day, and usually more like a week. So I had something to look forward to. It was no longer "I'm never going to be able to turn to this again!" It was "I can do this - I'm looking forward to next Tuesday when I can have 3 puffs!" Oh - and 3 puffs was all I would take. Any more would give me a head spin and when that happened I knew I was getting enough nicotine to keep my physically addicted. I don't know if this technique will help you or not, but once God showed it to me (again, I can't take the credit) it worked beautifully. I've been smoke-free for 6 years now. Well, with the exception of a few years where I allowed myself 1 whole cigarette on my anniversary date of quitting. That kept me going long term.

Gosh girl. I think it was literally kill me to set my date back. I am so ready. But I agree with the others. The Insurance persons that submit all this info for us know what they are doing. Most of them have been doing it so long. Listen to them. I know it was hard for me to do that but it worked out.
